Ok so, bluey has been up and running for a few days now, aside from the usual drama's to have been sorted out, I still have a grub in the engine..

As soon as I hit any load it begins to run on 2 cyclinders. Doesen't always happen however.. That's the thing, it comes and goes... and only at high speeds it seems. Around town its fine, but along the highway to the coast to and from Brissy, any of those slight gradient slopes and ive lost it... im down to 20 puttering away....then it comes good on the down slope, and we can get back up to 110+

not every slope as I say,, but its like the plugs are fowling up, then coming good again... but its fine around town and idling... nothings changed from when it was last running fine..

ideas anyone?

its a thought yet, could check that.. it was really bad when I first got engine up even around town and the fuel in the tank had been sitting for 5 months, so put some new stuff in and it was perfect after a while, but it's well gone now, been through a full tank and its empty again,, so not that, but maybe fuel filter i can check, but surely not??

If fuel isn't responsible try changing the coil to a spare and road test.

It sounds familiar to another problem that was posted not too long ago:

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... ll&start=0

Okay, that was 5 months ago, but I obviously have a memory for such things. It doesn't look like it was resolved, but a few good tips.

But I'd start with the fuel supply too.

hmm does sound familar, your right...

I also though that it might be a manifold leak on the gasket, but hace tighten everything up, and looks all ok, no soot marks coming out or anything...

My dissy and Carby are only just been reconditioned in February. So can't be them.

I've done the same as Jester, changed the carby mixture, and timing to find no difference :(

Get it to the point where is missing, floor the gas, switch off ignition and coast to a stop. Whip the top off the fuel bowl and check the level (may or may not be possible depending on carb I guess).

If it's low, you got yourself a starvation problem. Well, the car does.

How old are your plug leads?

Had exactly this sort of issue on the 1100S, tried points, condensor, coil and plugs before checking the leads - one measured over 2 MEG ohm in resistance! I dunno how that cylinder was working at all!

cheers,

Jacob

not that old really. I pulled them straight from Gumby's engine. Got me around my trip without a drama, but this has crossed my mine that there weren't connecting well, so pulled them off the dissy and really made sure they were on tight

oh and new plugs are in

I know you said you have not long had the dissy recond and you have ruled that out, but I would have a quick look at the points, we had a few dramas with our Mini K around about 12 months back, not sure if there was a bad batch of condensors or points around but we had new points and condensor etc fitted on a service by a Mini specialist, about 2 to 3 months later started getting misses and hard starts and running on 3 etc, checked every thing and as a last resort looked at the points and they were burnt, put a new set of points only back in, ran like a charm for a month or so then the same problem, changed the points and condensor again and has been fine for a good 12 months or so now, so wouldn't hurt to have a look in that area just to make sure.

Cool, but did you get the multimeter out & check the resistance of them?

The one I had in the set that was bad looked fine, connectors were good, looked pretty new but it was shot.

As long as they measure in the low-mid k ohm range they should be ok. It was worth the 5mins of measuring for me!

cheers,

Jacob
