when painting a motor how long should u leave the paint to dry b4 u can drop the motor back in and drive it.

Depends on the type of paint.
If it is engine enamel then it would have instructions on drying times, usually 8 -12 hours.
I usually paint an engine then leave it overnight and fit next day.

Some engine paints are cured by the engine heat, so they stay a bit soft until they are run. You have to be careful when fitting them not to get greasy hand prints or solvents onto the soft paint.

I chuck the motor in as soon as the paint doesn't come off on my hands anymore - but then I'm usually in a hurry

And if i remeber correctly your motor was painted in multiple coulours like a rainbow!

that was a while ago, then it went to a christmas theme, but it's just purple now

ok so if i paint the engine drop it into the car and straight away when the paint is touch dry it shouldnt come off correct
