Hey all,

ive got a set of carbs from an old 750cc motor bike, they are fine and in reasonable good nick, im wanting to put them on an engine im building at the moment, they sit at 15* as opposed to the SU's 30*

What would be the best way to make a manifold? should i get a twin SU manifold and make some adapter plates up, or get 2 lengths of 1.5" tube and put plates at the end of them? (one end for head, other end for 15* plates?)

Awaiting input,

Cheers,
Matt

Find a Sprite manifold, these are 20° and that's probably near enough. Then just make a pair of stub flanges for the carbs.

Wouldn't the sprite/midget manifold be too long and hit the firewall?

Looking at N/S A series it seems as though the carbs are further away from the motor.

they're usually about the same length, but the angle makes them no good for a mini cos the carbs hit the crossmember. Should be alright for bike carbs though

They are 38mm throats... so 1.5" turn up the fueling knob and hopefully it pulls enough

Where’s David Rosenthal when we need him

He was playing around with a bike carb set up on A series, there was a thread on it I thought?

Through some conversations I have seen hear there is talk that the bike carbs need much higher air volume to draw a good air fuel mixture, which means good power high revs but probably lower torque down low.

I think David was playing around with trying to overcome this a bit by lengthening the custom inlet manifolds as much as possible.

Anyone else remember any of these threads :?:

lets remember the motorcycle carbs are indeed a lot more compact so we can run longer intake manifolds which means even more torque.

I have also been looking at this setup lately & intending on finding a couple of pieces of billet alloy & machining them to suit my needs, however cutting, bending & welding pipe is easier & possibly cheaper too.especially on a longer or curved manifold.. Keep in mind you could possibly make them closer together thus achieving even more room between the firewall/roto hole & your filter.(having them stick into the hole a bit if using stacks).

Oh that reminds me, pretty sure david would have been on this thread to discuss it, if not for the spat of nit picking & personal attacks that occurred just a few months back :x
