Don't run a 12G940 head.
Far too big, unless you are wanting to turbo the thing.

A tickled 12G202 head is what you want.
12G295 if you can find one.

I agree with Vulcan, a 1098 has 8lb/ft more torque and around 10HP more than a stock 998 (not Cooper).
Sure you can get more revs out of a 998 (safely) but it's torque that accelerates your car, not top end HP.
Tuned 1098s are fine for a roady, just always keep em under 7000.
My old 1098 bored to 1220 had bigger balls than the 1275 that replaced it (with the same 1275 head, carbs, cam and zorst).

I have 2 1100 runners. 1 has been my wifes daily drive for a Number of Years. 1152 compression ratio due to skimmed 202 head ealily 10 to 1 HIF44 LCB and 2" muffler Pulsar Dizzy and a RE13 cam. Anyone who says a RE13 cam can't be used as a Daily Drive. My wife would be the first to complain and we love driving it except the final drive ratio is 3.44.

My Van has at pressent 998 block with a 1098 crabk a 1 1/2 carb soon to be HIF44, Mild 202 Head with corrected 1.3 rockers, LCB now with RC40, Pulsar Dizzy, lightened fly wheel, Crank flywheel balance plate balanced together and rods straightened and also balance weight. It has a RE83 Cam and a 3.6 diff. Engine still feels tight and I can't wait to change the carb to the HIF44 but im thinking I should have gone the RE13 cam but a month or 2 I should have a better idea.

best advise I will pass on is Balance the Crank, back plate, flywheel, Straighten & match weight of the rods. Also Match the ports from the HIF44 to Manifold to Head. We had mismatching and once fixed it made a huge differenced.
Wifes Daily drive 47.5 at 1 of daily drives but I know it has at least 50 now since matching the ports

Cheers

WM= Wifes Motor RE13
MM= My Motor RE83

MM needs to bed in more and still being adjust and having a few things thrown at it where where WM is is well run in. The other differences are the Head and the Diff ratio. If my WM had my diff it would be perfect quick road with the 3.6 but insaying that its quick just not as much as I want off the mark but perfect if where some hwy use is required. As i said earlier
she drove it during peak hour for many years.
The 83 is tamer and comes in earlier 1800 revs rather than 22-250000ish. You feel the re13 come on where the 83 (it maybe that the engine is not loosen enough yet or other factors) but the 13 swings it for me.

I'd love to do a head swap on both on a dyno to compare the cams with the same carb
