hi guys,

ive been changing my mind over the last few years but pretty sure now that for the amount i drive meeni (not a whole lot) it deserves some kind of crazy engine that you couldnt live with every day but for the odd weekend burn would tear your face off. so, i wanted to keep the car a-series, but want to go forced induction, and was thinking more along the lines of turbo rather then supercharger, purely because i love the look of them in an engine bay, love the sound of a proper one etc.. lol  anyway im going to begin to build up my parts so i can build a motor to run it and my question is this

to build a semi race (fast enough to be scary but still reliable enough to not be pulling it to bits every two seconds) what should i get? ie, pistons, crank, cam, rods, gearbox, valve sizes, springs, turbo and all the add on stuff (i dont want to do metro turbo setup, dont want to be hacking into the firewall too much).. everything i need. im going to build it out of a 1275 metro block, im not going to bore it out as far as it will go, probably two sizes above stock (1310?)

there you go, create my shopping list :P

cheers

sean

7 port - one of the new billet Specialists Components job.
Get someone to knock up a turbo manifold for you.
Injection hanging off the front.

Sounds fun to me!!

Go 60 thou over, that way when it lunches itself, you'll have some meat to go oversize again before you need to throw the block away.
Crankshaft, use a big J A+ - they'll have done the least amount of work, or or go a billet crank; maybe even one of GR's.
Billet conrods for sure.
Gearbox you could run anything from a standard helical, but I'd be inclined to run a straight cut.

Be careful with boring, I'd only go 2 sized max as you say Meeni, the blokes in the UK that stick wound up turbos on bigger engines blow ead gaskets every week, and thats a small problem!

i want to definately run straight cut.

im more inclined to running standard 5 port head, purely because its tried and true and i dont wanna spend another 10 grand on a head and also dont want an ugly 8 port tumor hanging out the front of the car, i want it to look like it does now, but then again twin cams would be fun.. :P

Get a mirage manifold and a T2 off a renault 5. They fit in behind the engine and the firewall.
Normally the right size for a 998, but high boost would still make it fun.

PM `Benjamin' on here, he makes a manifold to fit a T2.5 in the back with NO firewall mods needed. 8)
All flanges are laser cut (I supplied them).

Cheers, I don't care if it sits out above the flywheel housing or something as long as it's not 10ft above the bonnet

I have a metro turbo plenum with the modification to put the turbo on the clutch housing(the inlet to the plenum points toward the drivers side vice the back of the motor...). I was toying with the idea of putting it on Fleabay as I have no intention of going the forced induction route anymore...if you want it I will work out what I want to ask for it(frankly I have no idea but bought it for $150 a few years back...).

I also have an intercooler that suited as well as a HIF44(never got around to putting the turbo kit through it but no too much to do...). I will get some pics up tonight sometime...

Just piping up as I see you were going the FI path with the orange beast...

Benjamin did make one like this (for pristic) but the plumbing to/from there is a bit tortuous.
His later one is a better bet, and neat.

hee hee

no ugly bonnett buldges with turbo twin cam Meeni,,, all neat & tidy & totally under the bonnet

if you wanted to keep it drive-able & sooper dooper smooth,,, then you can`t go past the 16v twin cam turbo injection ,,, oh & over 300hp available,,, not that you need it,,, but 200hp is easy & manageable & still drive your grandma to the shops & back , nice & smooth, quiet & totally reliable :-)

& virtualy no body mods needed

Here's Benjamin's manifold (on his own car- says it's a bit big) but it clears the bonnet too.

His standard one is smaller than this and mounts a T2.5 lower down, but no `turbo box' is needed.

My personal favorite is Garrett GT12
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobyga ... 068__1.htm
Would be perfect as physical size and give great bottom end power.
