I've been putting together my BMW twin cam engine bits and I have almost everything but a flywheel and clutch.

I'm using an A+ 1275 block but I assume this doesn't dictate whether the clutch has to be verto or not.

The car will be almostly solely for road use. What clutch and flywheel combination do people recommend?

If power output be up to about 120 HP and you're not going to rev the ring out of it, then my combination of choice would be -

* lightened std pre verto flywheel, .200" is enough
* lightened S back plate
* bonded & riveted clutch plate
* orange diaphram

If it going to make more power, the use grey diaphram.

I agree ^^^, however a light steel backplate is more durable with the grey diaphragm (as Benjamin found out on his turbo 1152 when his lightened S backplate shattered). Perhaps it was how it was lightened though.

Yes seen the RTS clutch on turbo minis but the DIY factor is a bit beyond me.

we do a nice light package, but using a "Blue" diaph,,, gives over 1200-1400lbs clamp (depending) pressure & still fairly light on the foot

Image

Now that pic shows it with a puck plate but a decent AP comp material plate will be fine

if you notice we use our own CNC lightened (2-piece) flywheel, but we machine & press fit a new clutch spring "seat ring" into the flywheel, which moves the spring pivot point to effect WAY more clamp-age using the blue diaph , without the problem of being heavy on the foot

pretty tricky hey? :-)

Edit--> Vertos are heavy as lead,,, no matter what you do to them & besides they`re for skinny little girls :-)

Dave I reckon either get a rts or drill your clutch bearings with the oil feed mod so they don't die from a heavy clutch :)

Any engining mob can do it when building the block.

Ps clutch bearings I mean something else but I cant think of the name right now.
