This looks good, but as my car has sliding windows, I need another design and brakes would be nice too!

Has anyone got a better design (photos)?

my mates car has sliding windows, and his trailer has brakes



I like the design of that one on ebay - small and light

just needs the mudguard removeable

anyone ever measured their towball down weight with the mini on their trailer?

is there a good point to load a mini onto a single axle trailer to provide a good weight distribution? would it be any good to put a mini on a trailer backwards?

You must have more weight on the front of the trailer than the back.
You can make a trailer to have the car backwards but the trailer axle must be mounted a long way back to achieve the right balance.

Why do you need a different design because your car has sliding windows
Am I missing something

My trailer is a single axle tilt setup, wouldn't work with a mini backward, it would never go flat. I load it so I can't quite lift the draw bar and it is fantastic to tow.

I like the removable guard idea, I might do mine so just the top of the guard is removable

could you just add a winch?

Yep, the whole Dukes of Hazard thing is a real struggle with sliding windows!

It already has a winch (since the below photos were taken) but that won't change anything.

The trailer bed rocks over its axle so for it to go flat the centre of gravity of the mini (where the jack holes are) needs to go forward of the trailer axle, the issue with backwards mini on mine would be the back wheels of the mini would fall off the front of the bed before the weight gets far enough over the axle.

Its a bit wider than nececary but i just built the bed to suit the axle i had, theres about 15 - 20cm clearance each side.
You see in the bottom pic why i like the idea of removable guard tops

awesome looking trailer Tombo, i like the inbuilt storage boxes in the front sides too.

you could hinge the top of the guard from the front of the guard, so all you have to do is fold it over?


have always liked the concept of the tilt trailer, just never spent enough time under one to fully grasp the concept of the pivot points etc... i think for my needs if i ever build one, it'll have a flat floor so i can use for landscaping needs, tip out loads of mulch and compost etc, then haul the mini when needed

Hehe, i pinched the storage box idea from Mad MkI's awesome trailer

I thought hinge too, but it would hinge to the back with a latch inside the toolboxes.

And as for the complete floor, i have that covered with a removable centre, helps with working on the mini and saves about 100kg when removed.

One issue i had to deal with is weighting the front of the bed because i put a ute type wind up spare wheel holder under the front of the bed, that stopped it from tilting on its own so theres a light spring under it to help.
And it has a pair of car shocks in the tilt to soften the movement, it's stealth now

Question 1) Is no suspension an issue?

Question 2) How much (to have made)?

You can always add a plank to the drivers side trailer floor to lift the car a little to get door clearance.

I prefer suspension on a trailer. It makes a huge difference.

1. It does have suspension, 1.5 ton springs with about 3 inches travel unloaded, it has bout 2 inches with a mini on.
2. Including buying the donor trailer it came to about $1800.

The donor trailer was tandem unsprung and was a bit of a pig.
