Well if it has a 5 speed box I'm up for it. I'd bore it out to 1.6l, I'd love to have a 1.6l Mini, that's the same as our old Gemini (and what a beast that was). Don't like 1.5l motors, they came in crap cars like Barinas and whatever (just a mass generalisation on my part  )

These really were a crap motor. Long stroke, little valves, weird port shapes, too tall, too heavy. As said it's a boat anchor..

try buying a 1750 "Maxi" motor & gearbox (rod change & 5speed) :-),,,then bore the donk out & stroke her a little , will clean up at about 1900ccs

do some cyl head work to open her up & let her breath, (cause thay`re totally crap cyl head in std form, absolute crap really) :-)

& bung on a T03 turbo & full engine management,,, Yeah!!!!!!!!!

then shove all that into a mini ute, with 13X8" wheels & tyres all round,,,slap it on the deck with rear wing & front spoiler

now we`re talking !!!!!!!!!!!!

but then you could just buy a new 350kw Monaro & have heaps more fun without all the pain :-)

Are *any* parts interchangeable? Or are the motors completely different other than where they mount?

Totally different. As for the mounts being the same, I've only heard of 1 Mini in the past being fitted with one. If it was so easy, why not more...
It's been years since I saw one anyway, they are all probably cast into barbeque hotplates by now!

I remember in the Marque book Minis Downunder there is one with a 1500 motor, A/C, mini bar, fridge etc. The motor itself looked spookily similar to a normal Mini motor.

That pic (p37) is a normal 1275 A series, not a Morris 1500... Looks like Morris 1100S donk. ...typo??

<edit> looks like maybe a Morris 1300 auto, there's no dipstick in the usual place.. 8)

Okay that makes sense. Looks like a stocko HS4 too. I like a packed engine bay, but I prefer performance items, rather than creature comforts.

By the way, are HS6 dashpots (not HIF) the same external size as HS4? I'm wondering if the chrome HS4 dashpot covers will also fit the HS6. The MiniSpares UK catalogue lists the HIF6s as different, but makes no mention of HS6.

What are the reasons for using an 1100S auto block instead of a 1275 block? I have heard a few reasons but I am not quite sure about them. I have one that I was thinking of using.
Steve.

Steve.

1100S auto block is same as an ordinary 1100S, minus a few oilways..
but I can put them in and fit the oil pump adaptor.
I'm now using a converted 1300 auto block (same thing, really) `coz I have one. It's bored to 1360.8)
All 1100S, 1300 auto or 1275LS etc blocks are stiffer than the 1275 Cooper S- and have thicker cylinder walls, therefore `better' for big overbores than an S one.

All 1275 blocks are the same, mounting hole wise.
Power depends what goodies you have in and on it, and how carefully you build it.
This one now has a modified 1300 auto block, but most of the other bits came from my Mk2 Cooper S.
Russell Eng reckon it will now have ~120HP at crank.
No hairdryers or huffers...

I'm probaly getting off the track for this thread, but drmini, did you use an 1100S head on the auto block or a 1275 head and drill another stud hole in the block.
Steve.
