I need to replace my alternator , i'm wondering which alternator is a direct replacement for a Lucas 15 AC, without changing wires or pulleys . I just want to unbolt old one and replace with new one . All suggestions appreciated .
Goodie .

Do you have a internal or external regulator

Well, this works I suppose. I imagine goodie wants a more modern alternator than a lucas, though.

Bottom line is, if it's the right voltage and it fits, provided that it has one and only one regulator, it'll work fine.

I believe the 15AC alternators are internally regulated, but wait for someone to confirm (or disagree) on that one. If you do a search in the 'Mini A/A+ Series Mods' section for alternators, there have been a few people who have tried different types from other makes.

Isn't an ACR (as opposed to e.g. 15AC) Lucas alternator the one with an internal regulator, or do I have that backwards?

Was there ever a 15ACR?

scg and Harley, you are right!

I thought my old internally regulated alternator which I swapped out was a 15AC. But I just went out and checked - it's a 16ACR :?

So, if you want a direct replacement, you might have trouble finding a modern equivalent without a regulator. Perhaps just get your alternator reconditioned? Or are you after more power?

Some Lucas 15AC Alternator's were internal regulated. I have one that is. I think the internal regulated ones don't have a F (field) conector on the back.

Goodie,

Just get a hold of a late Clubman or Moke Alternator, these will be a 16ACR or 17ACR. Will go in without mods.

I have a 15 AC externally regulated alternator on my "S " , the thing is that its not charging and i haven't got time to get it re-coed, nor have a look at it to see whether i can fix it myself , so i thought i'd ask on here to see what others have maybe replaced their same type of alternators with . I'm not really interested in one that i have to modify brackets and so on to make it fit , or change wiring to make it work , thats why i would like a direct replacement . Also , my car doesn't run anything like stereo , driving lights
or any other power sucking bits and pieces, just standard items .
I recall reading on here a while back where, ( i think it was Doc ) was running a 16 ACR ( i think ) on his car without modifying anything , ( ï'm sure he will correct me if í'm wrong).
I will do a search and see what i can find out . Thanks for the suggestions.

And yes Harley you are technically right , but not very helpful ,i'm afraid .
