Afternoon all,

This might sound pretty crazy, but has anyone had a hole to access pedel box from engine bay?

you may have read from my other recent thread, I have grinded off a dodgy bracket below the clutch and brake cylinders, with the plan to replace, however, removing the old one revealed a hole.

I had planed on welding a new bracket on (covering hole), however, last night when I removed the 2 master cylinders the hole made the task of removing clevis pin much easier.

So I was thinking maybe bolt the bracket on instead, making it removable.

Does this sound crazy or what? I.d be interested in your thoughts...[/i]

crickey,, if its what I think is done.. heck the Previous owner obviosuly didnt have paitence...

It ain't that hard to get to the clevis pins from inside... just go buy a pair of very long nose pliers a torch, and you'll have it out in 2 secs...

I say weld the hole or whatever it is up, make it look right,, but it's up to you mate..

yeah i dont think the previous owner made the hole for that reason, i dont even think the previous owner made the hole on purpose.

I purchased a peice of angle, so just need to shape up an put on, i'll have another look on the week how it would look with bolts rather than welds, though in saying that i'm wanting it too look pretty tidy so i'll likely go the weld.

Not a good idea. There is already one large opening on the inside, putting another on the other side will take all the strength out of it. So when you jump on the brakes (for example) the whole top bracket will flex or could even break away.

These really long offset pliers make it a short and pretty easy job, and they're dirt cheap from Supercrap or wherever. Much easier than creating a hole, and useful for getting swallowed hooks out of fish too as it happens..

Heres a pic (click on for bigger view), as you can see it doesnt appear to be a purpose cut hole, when i cut/ground the bracket off, it opened up, perhaps who ever welded the old bracket on may not have been the best at welding and may have burnt through and created a very thin bit of metal, so when i ground it off it opened up??

That looks very dodgy , i'd be cleaning that up and plating it .

A firewall with holes isn't quite a firewall...
