Nice work there.

What is the heater in the back from?

one is the air conditioning unit, and one is the heater. The air conditioning is out of a rover, and the heater I have no idea, but I am presuming the same, as it was a rover front cut it all came from.

made some more progress the last few days after work.. (pics are now old as more progress has been made, but they keep you all happy :P ) I'm running out of time now to get it finished on my uni hols, so no time to waffle on here, pics will tell the story..

I also got the yellow clubman s mostly stripped, all subframes out, and onto a dolly out of the shed, for Gumby to come back inside :P, and some engines stripped down for gearbox parts I need for bluey's rebuild.. amoungst 10 million other things on bluey as u can see

It's all go here atm.. But I like to be busy and not one of these kids who I see ranting on facebook about being bored over their holiday break..

Enjoy the pics..

your right Tim... i was half drunk,,, it was the end of the day and I had a coldie in my hand after the days work,, it was getting dark and cold so i was pouncing around taking photos of the days work..

They are showing the things I did the other day,,, finished stripping the engine blocks 3 of them are now removed from the gearboxes ready for inspection by sitnlow62 :P

a little off topic here, but its on the same camera log so you get all the pics I took of today's work

On a positive note my help (in the pics ) turned up to get the engine out of the subframe this afternoon, pics below :P,,, crickey it was tricky to get the engine out of the frame,,, you'd never do it in the car.. never... the gearbox hangs out so much.. so many things to miss.. ended up hanging the engine from the roof and dropping the frame out sideways from underneath...

  yes I always think of you when I get more stuff, we are both alike, haha.. I've seen pics of your place hehe :P

the yellow s was bought as a rusted shell to strip for parts to fund my engine rebuild in bluey and the red clubby is little red, my mini I had, (the one that got rear ended last yr) and put me out of work for 8 months... u remember the one right? anyway I am keeping that for centimental value, and have slowly got all the parts, panels, and engine bits to build it into my race car one day soon.. not going to rush it no need to.. something to do when I get the chance :) but I've now got all the bits to get it fixed up :) Only just happened to pic up the rear cut I found for the panel repairs yesterday. :) Will get a pic of it tomorrow to "show and tell"

made some more progress today,,,

dismantled the subframe of all nuts and bolts, arms, rubber cones, brackets etc, and degreesed it all, and gave it a high pressure clean as well as cleaning the shed up and putting all my lost tools back in their places, and gave the shed floor a pressure clean while I was at it :P nice and clean semi organized work area now :P

How do you propose to do an engine conversion when you don't even own an engine hoist?

Unless I'm missing out on something here...

His "engine conversion" is more of an engine swap out of an already converted car.

He bought the converted car complete, with modified subframe

So it's essentially a subframe + motor swap out of one car into the other.
No fabrication

Then he just has to fiddle sticks about with wiring and the other bits

Correct

The car it was in was smashed in at the front behond repair.

Altho there is a few fabrication things needed, I am changing the way some of the mount brackets are designed and getting the new engineer to look at them as I go. Also adding some more strength and rigidity to the subframe with some more steel. :)

I actually do own a engine hoist, but it's being used by someone else on the forum here at the moment, so I improvised

Altho you can't use if for getting the engine in and out of the car, the whole engine and subframe has to come out from underneath the car and go back in the same way all as one unit. Just because the engine is entangled in the frame with the gearbox sticking so far out through into the gaurd etc and a heap of other things..

did a few hrs work on Sunday re strengthing the subframe with more steel and braces and an extra mount :)

Main change was the Doubled the thickness of the mild steel brace that goes under the LHS of the gearbox.. also welded up some cracks that were starting to appear in places..

Also degreesed and high pressure cleaned the engine, ready for primer :P

From this....

To this... notice the increase in bar brace size...

When we had it, it was recommended by a few that we strengthen that bar up... We figured that it had been driven on for years with that bar in there obviously doing the job it was intended to do...
That said I would have put a bigger brace in when first making it, were any of the cracks in the welds from the motor mod?

Yes, the front mount that goes onto the front panel of the subframe (that follows the apron panel) had began to twist and crack the welds. The front mount seems to take the brunt of the load in this design, so I decided that I would add an extra one at the back there to counter wait the pulling factor.

I was suprised it passed with such a small bar on the LHS but now its over double the size and welded continuously so I'm much happier now. :) Altho I would be much happier if it was going to be roadworthy by the muster :( I think it'll be a trailer job...
