Yep it has a Wombat conversion and not his problem
No its not a Smiths gauge (but every thing will be new again)
So... its never happen until now "Since March"
I'm sure its My wiring ..but why would it read higher with IGN on with the brake on

Could it be something to do with the brake lights? A short or a bad earth?

What is the petrol gauge doing when this is happening? If it is changing then your supply voltage is dropping below 11.4 volts so a short somewhere.
