With the 1360 (RE282 cam) in my car, I have traction problems in 1st gear with the 4.64 diff.
It lights the A008 tyres up at 5000 and spins em to 8000. So I tend to short shift it into 2nd... it really needs some A032Rs.

The 1412 stroker (RE13 cam) in it now with a 3.44 diff is more manageable, it is 10HP down but with more low and midrange torque it's quicker in most traffic situations.

Worked A series motors are fun, and the bigger (up to a point) the better. :P

What is the motor going to be used for eg. daily drive, weekend cruiser/thrasher  etc, etc . . .
How much "coin" do you have to burn?
If you dont need to go to 1380, in my opinion, dont. You can build or get built a strong 1310, 1330cc engine with plenty of goodies that with happily "putt" along but when you want drive with "gusto" you still have plenty under the right foot. As im sure you know there are plenty of variables that you can put inside or bolt on to aid the engine capacity chosen for a more enjoyable driving experience for you.

I do have a 1380cc engine and it goes quite well but the internal specs have changed vastly over my previous engine builds but so have the rest of the driveline specs. I do get better fuel economy on long hwy runs but stop start driving it does use more. The torque range i have is better and i dont have to rev the arse out of it when driving with "gusto"
In the end its up to you what you want to do and what you can afford to do.

Didn't say mine wasn't quicker, just wasn't that great as a drag car.
If I was building a drag car it wouldn't be FWD.

Anyway this build has seen a change to a 3.67 ratio and LSD, and will be hitting the dyno in a few months & will post up some G-tech 1/4 mile figures too.

Yeah 13" will do that. Hence the importance of setup of the car overall making a big difference to end performance, rather than just purely the engine capacity

im not going for a 1380, most likely a 1360, already have an re13 cam, will have a wedged and balanced crank, polished rods, havnt decided on pistons as yet but theyle be on the higher compression side of things, ittle more then likely start with a 5 port head on it and whats done with that is unknown i did pm graham russell about it. but im very interested in 7 port heads.. and will put one of them on there when i can afford one. its going to be a weekend warrior, not interested in comfort.. as long as its not a hand grenade..

oh and ive already got a gearbox sorted with straight cut gears, straight cut drop gears, centre oil pickup, 4 pin diff with 3:1 final drive because everywhere from my place requires at least half an hour of 110kmh driving

budget? dont really have one as im not spending the money all in one go, but having said that im not going to spend 20k on an engine, i dont really think you need to...
