Thanks for the replies team. That confirms what I pretty much thought. I'll stick with the H4's then.

Just so that I make sure I'm clear on this. It's not as simple as sticking H4 globes in my stock standard headlights is it? I've already upgraded the wiring to include relays and beefed up wires.

If you have standard Lucas sealed beams, no. You need to change them over for a set that allows you to fit H4 globes. I think they go for $90 and up depending on qualityetc..

BTW I wasn't having a go at you in my previous post - apologies if it appeared that way..

Nah mate, didn't think you were having a dig. Thanks for showing awesome forum etiquette and being the bigger man etc etc...

I shall henceforth commence the search for the perfect H4 setup.

I paid $60 for a set of Wipac H4 headlights from Karkraft in silverwater

Not too far down the big hill for you, and you can't go wrong really

Ring Karkraft, and speak to Tim
He'll take care of you

They didn't come with globes though

That is bloody cheap- a few years ago I brought 2 sets of Wipac quadoptics in from Minispares and they cost me about $90/pr...
They did have H4 globes in though (55/45W)

I have H4s in mine in Narva lights. One thing to note is the glass is FLAT as opposed to curved like the sealed beams.
It has provision for the Parkers at the bottom too. I don't use them, just the H4s for low and high beam. They run 2 x 5 pin relays and wiring is standard except the earths and wires from relays to the lights.

I can tell you it's HEAPS better with the H4s compared to sealed beams. Would never go back.

On the higher wattage, etc.
I sell lights in an auto parts store. The 60/55 are plenty. If you put in 90/100 they are NOT road legal. Same for higher wattage and HID but you can get HID engineered if you install a headlight washing system. I wouldn't bother.

You can also get H4s that throw more light or a LONGER beam. They do this by moving the element slightly back. They are usually +50% or +80% light and are legal.
They do work but a normal H4 is around $12-$16 and the others are more than $20 per globe. Not worth it in a mini IMHO.

Cheers,
Peter

Hence, why I made a note of it. Each to their own, I love the way they look in mine... but as you have said some people dont like them.

Cheers,
Peter

I think flat ones (eg. Hellas) look OK on a Clubby but a bit strange on a roundy.
I'm not biased, I have a spare set of each. 8)

Mind you, the way best looking on a roundy I think are Lucas P700s, they look awesome on my mate's Mk2S.

Can anyone provide me with pictures of both flat and curved lenses on a Leyland so I can have an educated opinion on such an important matter before I spend my hard-earned on a set.

Much appreciated.

Thanks Pete. I'll wait patiently for some other awesome person to post up picks of the curved glass variety.

P.S. Sweet as number plate. I want mine to look like that!

The curved ones look just the same as normal lights do

If you'd like a photo I can trudge through the weeds and grab a photo of the clubby tomorrow

Or a really dark one tonight!
