Hey guys,

i'm thinking of folding up some new outer sills at work and i just wanted to find out what thickness of sheet would be best.

I was thinking either 1mm or 1.5mm or even 1.2mm if i can get it.

Anyone know what would be best?

new car panels are about .8 so i would be playing with anything abouve 1mm personally!

Just remember the sill panels have a slight curve along the length.

A set of these came with a car I recently purchased. They seem to fit okay, but the vents present in the original sills are not pressed out in these. It will be obvious to all the sills have been replaced and the sills will not drain if water gets in.

Original sills out here only had 1 tiny vent, near the back.
I think these plain ones look OK, more original than the imported sills.

The UK sills had 6, if you fit those it'll be even more obvious they have been replaced. Same with their wider bumpy `oversills'.

If you are handy with the welder, I would cut and shut and the vent into the new sill!

Just measure it up andget a sheet metal place to fold one up for you. It'll be cheaper.
It only cost me $80+gst to get my floor cross memper folded up in 3mm ( or 4 i can't remember) zinkalume .

I would consider that an acceptable solution. I also thought about pressing the vents in somehow.

I stand corrected Doc. Earlier UK cars had four vent sills. I thought Aussie cars did too, I'm sure my Mini K van did?? Maybe vans used imported sills and the sedans didnt? Or maybe it had new sills before I bought it.

Late UK cars have the six vent sills and for many years the four vent type were not available. Most of the Minis in the UK have had new sills by now, so six vent is probably the norm.

4 and 6 vent are both UK sills... not Oz.

I am a sheet metal worker and work in a fabrication shop so it should be very cheap indeed

Is anyone interested in some sills while i'm at it?
