My weber (45mm) is not returning to idle quick enough for my liking. It seems to have taken to doing this yesterday and today, its as if the accelerator cable is sticky with a slow return. Any suggestions??? Its not the accelerator cable as this is new and not taking any sharp bends.

try some graphite powder on the cables. you can buy this at repco etc etc.

its a new cable, shouldn't be the cable.

Don't bet on it.

These days it's cheaper to just box it and ship and then replace any that might come back then it is to do a proper Quality Control on every item made.

First disconnect the cable, then run the car if idle returns back to normal then you now it is the cable whether it is new or old.

You don't need to disconnect anything to check the cable. Just have somebody else in the car work the pedal while you watch under the bonnet - a slow return will be obvious.

Mine does the same thing francis. I bathed the cable in oil which fixed it. Also check where your spring sits, I know yours is a hell of a lot better than mine but my spring was getting caught... impossible to explain what i mean but just check it is clear of everything...

... also, if you can lift the throttle from underneath and it fixes it thats a good indication that its the cable...

yeah the cable is a bike brake cable with a nylon center which ran really smoothly. i can physically twist the weber accelerator setting back to idle position very quickly and it still seems to lag.

This doesn't seem to make sense. If you have to return the throttle by hand to the closed position then there's something wrong. If there is nothing holding it open (ie foot on peddle or your hand holding it open) it should snap shut via the springs, no delay.

Silly question but you do have a throttle return spring (or two) connected right??

was the cable put on too tight. should be a little bit of slack.

Sounds like the spring to me. Otherwise there may be play inside the carb. What sort of condition is it in?

I was just saying i preformed this return via hand as a test, it returns by itself, ill make sure its not to tight. Sorry if thats confusing.
