Oh, back to the original question, I think it is a late 62/early 63 car.
I am not the expert on 850 build dates so I am only guessing. But it is far too low a number for a 65 car.
By 65 they would have been in the high 50,000's.

Mine is a 64 and its #53523
You are correct

I think it averaged out to about 15000 cars made a year. So 20,000 is about a year and a third.
But I think production was slower at the start and picked up later on so 20,000 might be a year and a half after production started.

So late 62 is a rough enough guess till someone else can narrow it down.

One easy way to guage, is either check the boot handle for a date
Wiper motor

Those two are not very likely to have been replaced

Even less likely, is check the fuel sender on your tank

If the circle bit is held in with screws, then it's an early early 850 (62-63ish I believe)

Or, just get a definite number up here and people will cross check for ya ;)

Hi :). The numbers on the wiper motor say 65, i couldnt find a number on the boot handle but the fuel sender is held in by 6 screws/bolts?
the number is definately 20964

I've also seen the year make on the floor mounted dipper switch, but it is interchangable and easily replaced

Mine doesn't appear to be changed but as you say they are easily interchangeable. I'll take a look tomorrow :)

Just about every electrical part has a date.
But every electrical part is made by Lucas so there is a fair chance that they have been replaced.

The 65 Wiper motor is probably a self parking motor out of a Deluxe.

I use the dates on parts as a guide but not as proof. The build numbers are a lot more accurate once you get enough information. The trouble is I don't have enough information!

A handbook with a delivery date!

I have worked out the Deluxes using a few delivery dates from handbooks to get the info but I have never seriously looked into the 850 numbers.
There is a bloke on here called "sports850" that has looked into the numbers and he would be the best man to talk to. The trouble is he is not here very often these days.

If it has original glass, maybe the rear window. That can be quite helpful if you know the decade it was made in.
