Well yes
There's a date on almost every part of the car

But I suggested the ones I did because they are least likely to have been changed

His car being modified likely has a key starter now

Tank sender on the other hand is a good indication between early, and later 850

On the glass it should have Triplex Toughened printed in a circle.
Below one of the letters of the word Toughened will be a tiny star.
Count the letters to the star, eg. If the star is under the "g" and the car was made in the '60s the date of the manufacture of the glass was 1964.
I'll try and photograph later.

Was this car previously metallic brown with a white roof and came from Croydon?
Did it have a 998 with magic wand, white Cosmic/Dunlop wheels?

It sounds very similar to a car mate owned back in the 90's we used to call "Boris the Beefmuncher".

Cheers,

SNAP!

After I posted above I went searching for pics in your old posts and found your build thread. That's the same car alright. I was with Terry when he stuck that bug "Mini Inter Net International" logo in the side window. It was a an old e-mail list from the days before the web existed. (It still exists but it's down to one post every few months now.)

Used to belong to a guy named Terry. He went to Hay in convoy with me two or three times in that car, towing "Tiny" a little 4x3 trailer. Good times! He was doing up a Mini Van for his wife but I don't think he ever finished it.

That car was abaondoned in South Melbourne somewhere back in the early 90's. Terry picked it up at the council auctions and did a lot of work on it to get it on the road. Years later he kind-of lost interest in it and parked it. Bought an SS commodore or something I've lost contact with him since. I didn't know if he still had it.

I remember when Terry went to register it he had an argument with the bimbo at VicRoads about the "65 Leyland" bit. She insisted Morris didn't exist, it was a Leyland and that they didn't make that model until 1965.

Good to see that car is still alive. :D

Wow small world. It was certainately worse for wear when i got the car. It's nice to hear some history about the car. I looked up vicroads and was surprised to see that it was listed as a 65 leyland mini. I am finding out now that its actually a 62 mini 850. I've only owned the car for about 4 months and i bought it off a friend of mine who had it for about 5 years?
What do you think of the car now?

Yep, loooks a lot better now. I'll reply in your build thread so the car's history is in the one spot. :)

Sorry about the image size but ausmini refuses to show it in its cropped form.
This is a photo of the rear quarter glass on my '66 MG 1100.
Notice a little dot under the letter "E" the 6th letter, so that means the glass was made in 1966.
If a car was made in 1960....would there be no dot?
First time I've noticed the dot over TRIPLEX.....the decade?

I just had a look at mine and if the dots are the indication (which would make sense and confirm what ive been told) then mine would be a 62 cos of where the dots are on the glass :)

Check your fuel tank sender

If it screws in, then you have an early 850 tank at least

62/63 I believe had the screw in senders

Also, check the boot handle for a date, it's probably to easiest to look at

Numbers are stamped on it, you just have to look hard for them
