I had an old couple looking at my 1100 at the Goulburn Mini 50 street show. The bloke was certain that my car was his old car that he bought new in 66. It wasn't his old car but it took a lot of checking for him to make his mind up.

That happened to me. The original owner recognised the number plate and told his family. Eventually his nephew came up to me and told me about it in the car park. Was good to find out the first 6 years of history that I didn't have.

Happened to me at a servo many years ago. He told me all about how the car was resprayed and they got the colour wrong. I got the bloke's number but never made contact with him.

I just resprayed the car again. I stuck with the "wrong" colour cause I liked it better.

I'd love to find him again so I can find out more about the car. He'd probably freak if he saw what I've done to it.

Happend to me as well,
a young guy was looking at mine at a car show.
he asked a few questions like:
what number plate did it have before SI? i told him, he knew it ended in 8373.
Was there an 'all parks pass' sticker on this window? yes i said
he asked me a few more questions about stickers and things he had put on it, like the sticker of a cartoon person on the dash, RAC badge on the grill.
Turns out he had it while he was on his P's and he hardly drove it as he had another car.
Which makes me think the 92,000km on the clock is original km.
Because he said he was the second owner and it only had 2000km on it when he brought it. Since he owned it only two others owned it before me.
An old lady who drove to and from the shops a few times a week.
Then the guy i brought it off who drove it daily for 4 years then stored it for 15.
So i know most of my Cars history.
i think its cool to know your cars history, its interesting.

I was able to fill in some of the history on Michaelb daughter's 68 Deluxe, because it was my first car! My grandfather bought it from the original family and gave it to me for my 16th birthday. Stupidly I sold I it a couple of years later to buy a "cooler" Gemini.

It had changes a lot over the years, but I could still identify it by chassis number, various holes I had drilled and dents I made in the grille.

Michael has since sold it and it now lives up near Coffs Harbour or something.

Not had it with my Mini... Built it from scratch so am the only owner. But:

Had it with my dog at a Mini show... he was a 2 year old rescue from the RSPCA (IN UK so long time ago). Walking round the show with the dog (and wife!) when I hear dogs name being called, young lady runs up to us all emotional... She had to give him up as he was so big and kept jumping their 5 ft fences. Long and short she was happy that he had been rescued and was happy...

Also had it with a 1950's coach built pram I restored. We were in Ironbridge in the UK: Old lady was convinced it was her old one, didn't have the heart to tell her I had resprayed it so it'couldn't have been, again she was in tears as it brought so may happy memories back...

How "young" was this guy? He must've been in his late 30's/early 40's going by your info. He would've been 18/19 when on his P's, then the guy who had it for 19 years (4 driving, 15 stored), then the old lady for however long, then however long you've had it.

Well after 41 years I found the original owner of my Aussie cooper s and they still had the original owners handbook which I now have in a safe place.
One Mr Ron Williams in Tenderfield NSW remembers this car new in the show room.
How sweet is that!

I always wondered with my previous Mini, it had Sandra and the infinity symbol etched into both quarter lights.

I still have the doors but I cut the car up with a grinder, infinity can't go on forever, mwah ha ha.
