Leigh we need to talk!

I will share the set up on the white car you drove, I can tell it's had quite an impression!

Another factor is rear (or front) anti roll bar, I like to think of these as a way of sharing both springs with one wheel, some of the load form the compressed wheel transfers to the other side, so really it's just another way of stiffening the rear (or front) spring rate.

I'm interested in how the Grp N's run so low, yet don't rub the arches? do they run special bump stops? This could be anothe factor, are bump stops suplementing the springing??

Big topic and lots of ways to get to how you like the car!

Hoosiers like to be set-up "straight up & down" (ie: no camber)

Yokos "Need" a fair bit of camber (at least 2deg)

not trying to tell every one what they should do , because it`s all a lottery dependant upon many other things, like springs, & shocks & the stiff-ness of the car body shell etc

but, a general rule of thumb with the tyres is as above

i'd start with new standard cones, if they're old cones then they belong in the bin

if you want stiffer cones, get new ones :)

I went through this pain earlier this year. I had been running old original cones for years and realised they were past their use by date.

I changed to the racing ones sold by Minispares in England. About $90 each. I only put them in the front as the back is not as important. The car is now much more compliant and smooth when entering corners so they are working much better.

The problem is they constantly sag so you will have to be prepared to constantly adjust your ride height. I'm not talking a little here, I'm talking alot.

As for bump stops...play around. you may need to cut them down as alot of Group N guys do. As you can see by the photos there are alot of different ideas around setup. Lot's of fun ahead for you.

Cheers,
HRS

Ordered 4 red dot Rubber cones from Minispares.
Trying to priorotise my parts list!
Not always easy but the cone is the heart of it all so good to have something decent in there to start with I think. Crazy to put old ones in when the rest of the suspension is new.

Do you need to run longer track rod ends?

Yes. Even for the additional security, a good idea. I also run those cones, but only in the front of my car. Good choice.

As for set-up, need to decide first what tyres you want to run. They will dictate what your suspension settings will be. Of note, one of the quickest Nc cars isn't set too low, uses the suspension rather than sitting on the bumpstops. I reckon the American Racers are the way to go. Cheap (compared to Hoosiers) and good grip. Once you decide on your tyres, talk to the guys that run them for their settings. Start with those and then set it up how "you" like it.

Have fun.

I've got the Mini Spares red in the front too, mine haven't sagged yet?

Last few genuine cones (none competition) that I've bought have sagged terribly, the ones on my moke lasted 6 months, these were rover part number bagged items, but I think this was common on later sportspacks etc.

I've bought some more Mini spares reds for the moke too!
