The fuel pump on my mini has jus died, has anyone had to replace the fuel pump for an SPI rover before ?

I see walbro do one (item ITP044) and also I've heard of people using a walbro 516 ?

Is there anything else ? As $500 for a genuine replacement Isnt an option due to price

I've changed the fuel pump in mine before, its a fiddly job but straight forward.
I just replaced it with another used rover one cause it was the most straight forward and cheapest option.
If you find anything else that works / fits I'd be interested to see how you go as may be of use to me one day.

I went to Upull it ( or any wrecker ) found the fuel pump out of a nissan Micra and adapted it to suit the mini .. it isnt an easy job but it does mean that any in tank pump can be modified to fit ..

had to make sure the pick up was in the right place and low enough ...

Any dimensions/photos of the original one? I've never seen a original rover one, but i'd think there would be a fair chance a universal 38mm or 51mm intank pump could be made to fit. I've fitted a few of these to replace odd/expensive oem pumps with good success. Usually sell for $50-$75 new.

I've got a spare pump assembly less the motor, you're welcome to find something else that'll fit.

Minispares have a photo of the original, ideally I'm after a bolt on a/m pump as I don't have the facilities to be modifying things,

ATM I'm thinking I'll have to import one

i would rather adapt one to suit ...

The SPi ones on minispares are 115 pound ... and the genuine rover ones are pus if you ever want to do more to your car ( honda / starlet/turbo)

i dont know if its possible but why couldnt you put a VL commodore one under the car ... leave the other one in there

I think I'll get the walbro apparently it's easy to install
Yeah the fitting kit comes with the pump with all you need, all it comprises of is a wiring plug, pump filter, few clips and a small pipe. Its a generic fitting kit for the walbro in-tank pumpsĀ

All you need to do is splice in the new wiring plug, the new pump attaches just like it did before but you might need a cable tie to hold it a bit firmer to the pipe running alongside it, it'll make sense when you put it together, nothing difficult, I did it
The Walbro 516 is about 5 times the pressure of the factory pump, so stick with the other ITP044 I think.
:D

I'm going the walbro GSS342,

And that is true but apparently the computer controls the pressure

The computer doesnt control the pressure or even the flow, it just turns the pump on / off, though there is a regulator in the throttle body housing.

I'm just thinking if you're going to upgrade to a higher pressure pump, then you should upgrade all the hose clips too. I don't even run factory clips on a standard car, no way do I want any fuel leaks!

well i had it all in my hands.. turns out the origonal wasnt broken after all.. DOH !

and the walbro GSS342 definately doesnt swap straight over.. the walbro has a male fitting and the pump pipes a male too so you would need to join the 2 by using a little hose and some hose clamps or something of the sorts, i didnt take it any further as i found my worked.. so good luck to anyone going this path !
