Replaced the float on the fuel tank sender on the Black S, fuel gauge works again :D yah! Seems the old float didn't float too well when full of fuel.

Shouldn't have to do this job for another 45 years!

Our 1970 Mini K came back home today...
Bit of a background, my Mum bought the K in 1970 brand new, hardly drove it, in 1994 it had the grand total of 11,000 miles on the clock.
My mum passed away and the K was handed down to me, when my daughter turned 18 in 1994 we did a partial resto and it was given to her as a daily driver, she has driven it daily since 1994 (17 years). Well today she decided it was time for it to have a rest, the alternator had packed it in and it had a flat battery, so she had it put on a flat bed and towed to my home where I made a space in my garage for it, how long it will gather dust tucked away whilst she saves for a full resto is any ones guess. Quite a few years I would think. The power plant has never been out of the car in the 41 years it has been on the road, still all original,
the 41 year old mechanical fuel pump is still working fine along with most things. But time for a full resto as the body work is getting a bit tired now.

Bought a new 4 core radiator and K&N filter(DHLA 40) for the mini.

Ordered the POR-15 rust preventative paint, ordered the Tie coat and Hammercote(white) to finish off the fully stripped engine bay.

Tried to work out the new wiring loom with the book(not my strong point!!!).

Photos to come... :D

Had to raise the front coilovers 30mm, the out side of the tyres were doing there best to take the flares off when you turned the wheels.

Then bled the brakes and clutch and fitted a new exhaust.

But on sat and sunday I hung the doors, painted the car, fitted the new wheels and tyres, fitted two new bumpers, new tail lights, new grill, new moustache, new headlight bezels, new rear seat, new door cards and new front seats.

And started to clean and dehaud the garage ready for the move to QLD.

Im moving to QLD to leave the Navy (a very sad occasion for me  , I love the Navy, best job in the world), not really intrested in getting closer to the crazies in the ACT. Seriously though I had to really push the last three weeks, just so the mini could be moved as a hobby vehicle, my mates at Toll dont like to move all of the excess parts apparently.

I've just finished a busy weekend working on the mini, amongst lots of other things. Friday I finished off the welding and got rid of any surface rust with my new twist knot bevelled wire brush for the angle grinder. Removed the remaining door and removed both front and rear subframes. I have just started stripping the rear frame. I can't believe how easy the rear frame came off, it was like it was only put there a few months ago. Lots more updates to come.

I've got 24hrs at home, so once the kids went to bed I went out and chased a few jobs I've been hanging to do while away.

Replaced a voltage reg on the instruments which had failed, and replaced a side mould which I was never happy with.

Maybe a drive tomorrow to cap it off before putting the mini away again for another time.
