I'd say, reeeeeal smart!

well,.,, lets be a little realistic shall we?

not everyone has a vice & a pair of decent 4" grinders

not everyone has a few spare manifolds laying around

not everyone is clued up on where to cut, or how to cut & grind these things

not everyone has the time or the inclination either

so,,, for the amount of gear you need to complete the operation & the couple of hours it takes to sort the transformation,,, well it makes sense that those manifolds that come up on ebay from time to time, will appeal to those people without all the equipment, time, room, ability, etc

& hence $100 isn`t really too expensive for it at all when you think about it, especially for people in those circumstances unable (or maybe just too difficult) to perform the operation themselves really hey???

so, maybe $80 isn`t too wrong when you think about it,,, & then a little eager nearing the end of an auction & smack a few more coins in to secure the thing, might just save some people a head-ache trying to make one themselves

so i understand the high bids

so,,, who would like a few of these manifolds???, i have some here all ready, cut & ground & ready to go , $100 each is obviously the going price now days

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

I recently did the cut job on one of those as a favour for a local mini Shop here in Brisbane.
He was much appreciative, he had put it in the too hard basket, too time consuming and just hard work.
When you put it down to an hourly rate it adds up very quickly......

The first one I did I used a hacksaw and a file. I didn't have a grinder in them days!
I wish I had been paid by the hour for that one!

I see why they are that price. It does take time, effort and tools to make them like that. Besides the actual cost of the original manifold. Think about it, is $100 expensive when you need one and can not make it yourself and save?.

You could buy a complete manifold and an angle grinder for $100, cut it yourself, and you're left with an angle grinder for the same price!

You could always take the angle grinder back and get a refund after the job is over!
