/rant
I built another 2 racks for a well known Mini shop.. who also supplies me the parts.
1st one went together fine.
ditto the 2nd one, until I filled it with oil...
One bloody cheapo thin (are Chinese now?) rubber boot has a pinhole on the moulding line.
So, I have had to turn upside down, now wait hours for the oil to drain to the other end (hoping that boot doesn't leak too) then fit a new boot.
This problem (thinner boots) is recent, but I had this same problem on 2 racks with the same boots a few months ago. Maybe was a bad batch- but don't the manufacturers have any quality control now? I guess not if PRC.

Better boots do exist- the ones I get from Karcraft are thicker, and I've never had a problem with theirs.
I need to speak with my customer about him changing his brand of boots.
/end rant

[edit] Note that none of the racks I have supplied have leaks when shipped, but it is tedious to have to change boots on a rack with 200mL of oilz already in it..

I still can't believe I reversed it back up into the garage with only a minor bit of guard damage and no injuries or writeoffs !

Wow!! That was a close one!!!

Steve since u have been posting about your car I was only remembering the other day the one huge drawback with the Matic.

No Park!

I remember when we had them Dad really drummed into us that if we parked on any kind of a steep slope he taught us to get in the habit of angling the wheels into the kerb.

He also kept a couple of lumps of timber in the rear pockets he could use if he was concerned.

See you tomorrow!!

Phill

Take a good look at the floor where the subframe meets the floor, there is a chance you may have knocked the frame back a little.

I grew up in the Blue Mountains, I have seen a lot of runaway cars! Funniest one was very similar to your effort, my brother in law was pulling the gearbox out of his Monaro, his garage had a pit. He got in the pit and removed the tailshaft, next thing the car was gone! He and his mates chased the car down the driveway across the road and into the driveway of the place over the road. They got it stopped before it hit the old ladies house!
The hard part was pushing it back into the garage!

Just see if there is any buckling or freshly cracked paint, try and lift the carpet or floor mat to get a good look at it from inside the car.
It is probably nothing, but if there is a big hump in the floor and your car is hard to steer you will know why!

Fixed the rear demisters so I can return the glass to the car. I had to fabricate a tab to replace a missing one.

The epoxy went off far too quick though. The packet says 10-15 minutes working time. It went off in about three minutes and it wasn't even hot.

Perhaps the batch was old. It is funny as it says that it has a shelf life of 12 months but no mfg date to check ho long it has been on the shelf....

Oh well.

I picked up the finished drivers seat and rear seat for the 850 from the trimmer. The old girl is complete in original trim now. :D

Refitted the rear doors including new seals. Was delighted my repair (cutting up two LHS doors to make one good one) work well.

On to the seat mountings now. I have to show the certifying engineer a welding example before I can make them for real.
