The door is only light, so two steel original hinges in good condition would hold it, but if changing the door I'd go a step further and come up with some concealed hinges: even if they are at either the top.
:D

If I could work out how to conceal the hinges I would , I think with the lock on the side a Sedan boot lock and handle would work well ,easier to find a Leyland one , I could even look at using a gas strut to hold it in place so it does,nt open too far, the rubber seal would be interesting to fit but I,m sure I could figure it out , I,m starting to like the idea more and more :D

A Clubman Boot "lid" with NO requirement for hinges or handle...4 pin connection.

A 1-piece removable "flip" front...No hinge/s...for the same Clubman.
...Bolt to lower front sub frame mounting points, pins at "A" panel/wind screen area.

A pair of "1/2 height doors"... no window frame, approx 300 mm overall height.

ALL as thin/light as possible.

*** serious interest***

PS & definitely not Road Registered!!!

PPS... coincidence...doors are the same size as the doors on the "Mini-Trac",
well the hinges are in the same general position.

Well , I found a photo of a one piece fiberglass rear door for a van using the original hinges and also using a boot lock/ handle , damn I,m going to have to do it now :) , its just looks to good , now the other bit is working out how to fit a rear wiper ?

And I just happen to have a NOS Smiths rear screen demister which would fit nicely too !

I may also have to use something like Morris 1100 rear lights instead of Van ones , as you can see in the2nd last photo it almost opens onto it , as I said a gas strut would also work

Take a look at Ford Escort van lights, they might work for what you want.

I have seen a few Mini Vans with these over the years.

Ford Escort Van lights , interesting , also some of the Sunbeam models had great tail lights , I also really like the idea of Triumph 2000 ones as well

Anyway back to fiberglass , I had a look at mounting top hinges but quickly said no , can be done but I,ll still stick to original hinges

There are a lot more fiberglass options than I thought but the one piece Van back door has really got me
