hey all
just curious to know if anyone here has tried or succeeded in installing central locking in their mini? or whether its even possible :S
surely would be easier to install an alarm but better to install central locking.

can it be done?

Yeah I have it... no drama (except door cards need to be thin enough... a few mods, etc
I put up a post before about it... ill search.

I ripped them out there use less when they break cant lock the door by key cause you got to disconnect the lock rod well thats what the previous owner done to ours

Came with central locking and alarm all been ripped out now cause the battery kept going flat got sick of charging battery a day before we went some where in it

that sucks!

dont like the idea of having to charge the battery everyday!

so bad idea then?

Drjbeam there is something wrong with your setup of that's the case. Never had any of those issues.

There are quite a few who setup using my way and it's working.

Thanks for that, I'm defs looking into it! Would be a wise purchase considering it's a fairo simple lock on the mini!

Just waiting to get my car on the road and then a few bits here and there and defs fitting in the central locking!

Nah mate the lock broke was only plastic where they screwed it to the door and was stuck in lock cause the whole thing just slid when you locked it from inside

I rather lock it by key anyway that way you know its locked

Yes, it's quite possible, I've done it myself. And no, if it stops working, you can still use the key to open the door without any issue.

Most aftermarket central locking systems use a solenoid that attaches to a rod to push it forward or backward. I mounted the solenoid under the door latch and bent a rod from the solenoid around the metal of the door which attaches to the door latch.

I attached a keyless entry unit at the same time which uses the same hardware. The only problem it really causes is that it's much firmer to open with the key - but I don't need to do that anyway!

The bloke we brought it off pulled the rod from the key lock to the lock on side of door so couldnt lock

The key lock on outside was just there for show

I set mine up the same way as pristic and it works like a dream.
Only problem is you have to modify the door cards, not a problem for me as I have covered mine in leather anyway.
I have not used the key in the door for nearly 2 years now!!!

There are no limitations to what can and can't be done with locks and stuff in mini doors.
If you want the key in the door as a backup, you can do it.
If you want no key as a security thing, get rid of it.

Personally I have no external key, my logic is that the odds are with me that both doors won't fail together so if one does break I'll have to fix it quick smart.

External door locks? What are they??

If rules allowed it, I wouldnt even have handles... solenoid and remote.
