Powdercoating, which parts other than the subframes would you get powdercoated?

Um... that's all I can think of at this minute

You are better to paint subframes Power Coating chips and rusts under neath

2k paint is best for subframes

I had my seat brackets and pedal bracket and pedals powder coated
Subframes were 2k'ed by the sand blaster
I also had some wheels powder coated, these are planned to be used as spares for each of the fleet

I agree, powdercoat adhesion is pretty poor unless you grit blast the subbys.
The other prob with powdercoat is most stuff done has piss poor UV resistance. It fades like buggery in sunlight.

If you look around , a lot things are powdercoated, clothes lines come to mind,
and after few years it come off in sheets.
I'd be interested to hear from any who have had powdercoating done on car parts and how it has stood up.

I had the sunraysia wheels done on my Moke about seven or eight years ago and it hasn't stood up that well, it has developed cracks on the spoke part and has oxidised a bit. About a year later I had the roll bar and bumpers done by a different bloke. They still look as good as they day they were done, even on the top surface where they cop the most sun. There are many different types of powdercoat and clearly some are a lot better than others.

The guy that did the wheels specialised in metal furniture and the guy that did the bars specialised in fence panels.

The subframes would be sand blasted then powdercoated.

Judging by the responses, powdercoating isn't the way forward...

Might just get all the above stuff sandblasted and then get some POR15? Or is 2K better?

POR15 is way tougher stuff than 2K. Excellent for subframes etc. As long as you want black, grey or white!

I got my Firsat's powdercoated Hammertone Grey , what I like most is that they change color with the light , no chips or scratches yet after two + years

I POR15 my subframe and wasn't that impressed with it.

Horrible stuff to work with had a wicked headache for days even with a mask on.

They say brake fluid will not effect it, don't agree mine bubbled up after a minor spill which was cleaned with water straight away

Its hard to touch up if you get a scrape

I sent my subframes off on Monday to be sandblasted and 2k prior and painted gloss black

I also found that my subframe was rusting under th POR15, I chiped some off to see how hard it would be to strip back to bare frame again and it was a brown rusty colour.

I am not sure if the fire the car was in had anything to do with that but the part I chipped off was not damaged and still very shiney

If you powder coat parts don't forget to tape up any threads. I had to clean out the threads on my pedal box and take the chroming off the bonnet catch too. Not a fun job.
