Im leaning to the promotive kit. I was thinking of going the z cars route, even though it's the same cost as buying a Aussie racing car but decided then I could only use it for track days. The pro-mo build guide looks like something i 'might' be able to manage myself. I like the idea of having two complete subframes, one for road legal driving and then swapping it out for track days. I just need a trailer to tow it and figure out a easy way to change the engine wiring loom.

That is if the motor actually arrives. I have been waiting a month, each delivery date is met with more excuses, the last email was from his 'mother', saying he is in hospital.......

I paid $950 and the photo of the speedo showed 22500 klms. It seems cheap but might end up being very expensive if it never arrives

I went looking last night and was surprised with how FEW turbo kits there are for the R1. There is so much room left in the engine bay with these bikes conversions you would be silly not considering turbocharging it.

Seemed odd there wasn't many for the R1 but a million off the shelf for the GSXR/Kwaka for nix.

Its seems the CBR1000RR engine is the 'in' thing to have at them moment. Only 1000cc and more HP that the Hyabusa at 1300cc!!

I'd love to be a passenger in your swift powered mini NG. Was very tempted to go that way, but the r1 motor was so cheap i figured I could always eBay it if I decided against the bike conversion.

the other kit looks so much easier to swap for track days.. it's a cradle in a A series sub frame i would go it all and see how much $$$ is in it.

well,,, i`ve resisted to post on this one as much as i could

because i`m obviously quite biased & my input would be all one sided

& that`s because my own R1 powered "Thing" is far far lighter than a complete mini

so,,, i`m actually biased against fitting a bike engine into a complete mini """unless""" it has some serious balls, & by that i mean a turbo hyabusa or something similarly Nasty, not just a stock R1 donk

as good as they are & yes of course i know how good they are, in my books they would just not be much chop in a complete (IE: heavy weight) mini unless some serious boogy was added, or maybe 2x R1 engines, or maybe even a V8 R1 or Busa donk or something like that, then that`d be pretty cool

"""power to weight ratio in a nice handling & good stopping package""" is where it`s at (in my books) & a stock-ish R1 in a complete-ish heavy weight mini is only "so-so" ,,, --> in my books

so,,, yeah you all may get a hard-on with the std-ish R1 fitting into a mini, but sorry,,, it just doesn`t turn me on & the gearboxes are not as strong as i`d like either

so,,, read into all that as much as you like, but my feelings are that they`re just not meant to carry such a weight-y package & therefore won`t perform as well as you`d like
(& i reckon it won`t take you long driving one to realise that, sure it`ll be a blast to start with, but you`ll soon see what i mean)

& 2ndly i reckon there will be a pile of people who have these R1 conversions in minis that will soon be chasing gearbox bits &/or spare engines in the very VERY near future simply because they are just not made to carry such weight for any length of time.

& as for swapping donks between road driving & racing,,, Bugga that!!! if you want to go racing then use a race car,,, if you want a hot road car then build a hot road car--> they are 2 totally different cars & if you try to mingle/merge them, then you will just have a poor compromise on both depts

& yep,,, sure,,, that`s cool if that`s what you want, but stuff swapping engine packages between race meetings, i`d rather have a heart attack while out surfing

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

You should put your heart & soul into everything you do.

And you can buy an off the shelf kit to make your mini AWD for near enough to $4k... + $6k to actually get it to move under its own power.

I guess it is the $10k question. Just because it is technically possible, is it the right way to go?

The Aussie racing cars use a 125hp motorcycle engine and although they weigh much less (450kgs) their performance is pretty phenomenal. AUW will be in the vicinity of 600kgs in the mini so it is a fair bit heavier. But I've done 180k's down the straight at QR in my Mazda MPS and that was scary enough. 80k's in the mini felt fast..... so I Dnt thnk I could handle a ball tearer.

After searching through and reading every forum thread I could find about front engined motor cycle engine conversions, there seem to be a lot of projects that have stalled, or people who build one and then sell it shortly after.All food for thought.

Wifey says just buy a Aussie racing car and at least there will be a racing series I can go in. Surprising really, as she has a good indication of my skill level as a driver!!

I would quickly lodge a dispute with Ebay to get your coin back. The tactic from the scammers is to drag you out past the ebay policy terms on refund.
