I was just looking at the original registration papers of the Mk1 S I bought brand new on the 14th March 1969, the body number on that was around 130 cars later and it never had any Mk2 stuff on it from memory, the only Mk2 stuff it had were the Mk2 flares that the dealer had to fit to get it registered.

I would guess that the car has had quite an interesting life with three different paint jobs and quite a lot of changes in the 43 years since it came from the factory.
Not all cars were kept wrapped in cotton wool in the hope of being valuable in the future..

Correct. With the matching Westminster carpet. Pretty sure none of 'em came with black.

Back in the seventies and as a direct result of the "Super Cars" fiasco, anything sporty became very very expensive to insure and the price of Coopers dropped dramatically.

Even to the point where people like John Smidt were converting Cooper Ss into 998 and 1100 deluxes etc so they had some reasonable retail value.

Once they fell into the cheapies market and were in the hands of the less affluent, numerous fiddles and modifications were made to them over the years.

A noted motoring writer and racing driver at the time, David Mckay, wrote a page long article in the SMH urging parents not to let their teenage sons and daughters buy Coopers becaus they were dangerously fast and by that stage under maintained and unsafe.

I agree also that the greater majority of surviving cars have had a "eclectic" life

Last Mk1 Cooper S number was 5486, built April 1969.

The above mentioned car fits in, according the numbers I have, at around November or December 1968. It may be registered as a 1969 model - not uncommon for it to be wrong for a number o reasons, and it may not have been registered until 1969 in the first place.

Snow White is listed as 1968 colour, but Lake Green is listed at 1967 colour, but I don't know when changes took place - possibly used up colours available anyway, but it is interesting - and I'm not saying it is wrong, only that it is interesting - that it has a 1967 listed colour and was built Nov-Dec 1968.

1969 listed white is Crystal White. Certainly, by the time of the Mk2 they were using Crystal White.

All the Snow White/Lake Green cars I have listed on my register have Doeskin or green interiors, with the majority having Doeskin.

I did already have this car listed, but with Doeskin interior. I don't know where that information came from - possible emailed to me at some stage. However, I do have a body number (as would be on the radiator cowl) so if anyone is checking on this car they can get the body number and compare it with what I have listed. Of course the information I received could be wrong, as I have no way of verifying it, but it could be a good guide. Keep in mind that difference between body number and chassis number should be about 500.

Don't be too surprised about the number of Mk2 bits - as already said, a lot can happen in 40+ years. Not everybody has the knowledge or inclination to restore back to 100% original.

Engine number should be stamped 9F/SA/Y
ID plate should be stamped 9F/Sa/Y so the number on the engine block does appear to be stamped correctly.
