Ideas please or Pics of where to attach an extinguisher

I screw mine vertically to the passenger side inner wheel arch - the kids don't kick it or knock it with their school bags when I take them to school every day

Same place i put one in my road mini. Out of the way of legs/feet and doesn't interfere with seat adjustment whilst i'm still able to reach it from the drivers seat.

Vey simple, I just got some flatbar and put two holes in the ends so it fits between the seat mounting brackets, and the extinguisher bracket is attached to the flatbar.
This way I didn't need to put any holes in the body.

I have read a few threads on this subject and remember people writing that if you can't reach it from the drivers seat it is no use. I guess the chance of being trapped is possible, weather a small extinguisher in that case will work I don't know, especially if the fire starts in the engine bay or under the car. Just some points to consider I guess. I have used a car fire extinguisher 3 times. Once to put out a transmission fire on my commodore and twice to put out other peoples car fires. Better to have one anywhere than not at all I guess.

In the Mini, mine is in the same place as Simon K / LS1380. Never gets in the way.

In the Hilux, it's attached to the crossmember just in front of the passenger seat, mainly because in the footwell it would be in the way.

If I was fitting one to a Mini for the first time, I'd fix it to the crossmember, mainly so it's less visible and slightly more accessible from the driver's seat.

I have mine like harley's. Best position IMO, out of the way. I had mounted on the exhaust tunnel in the back seat for ages but kept on bumping into it.

Most important is that you can reach it while still buckled in, that's a Cams requirement I think, but it makes sense even if you're not racing...

With my mini, i only had a retractable seatbelt, so i was able to reach over to it. But if it was a racecar i would have it closer to the driver as passenger space is less important.

Have you ever seen a car on the track pull up on fire? The driver always gets out in a hurry and later on goes back in the car to grab the extinguisher.

I would rather mount it in the boot. It can't hit you in a crash when it is in the boot.
It is easy to get to when the motor is on fire and if the boot is on fire it will set itself off.

I have seen cars on the track crash due to an extinguisher falling under the pedals.
I have seen a driver get a broken jaw from an extinguisher coming loose in a big crash.

It sounds a bit strange but it makes a lot of sense , I was told by a CAMS rally official a few years ago that he had an old woolen blanket he made thick mitts from and the extinguisher in his car had the mitts slipped over the end before being fitted, reason being he said , an under bonnet fire means the bonnet gets damn hot damn fast , so mitts on raise bonnet flick off right hand mitt and attack fire

I put both mine under the passenger seat but infront of the cross member. Its easy to get to and also out of the way

As per Morris1100's comment. Probably not the most astute choice, but I didnt want it floating around the passenger area.

One point on these dry powder extinguishers, wherever you mount it-
Take it out of the car often (weekly? monthly?) and shake the daylights out of it.
The powder packs down in time, if never shaken it may not work when you want it to.
