Yesterday I continued pulling my engine down for it's freshen up. Flywheel off, clutch housing removed & valves out of the head. Don't know who built this engine but the amount of clear silicone they used is beyond a joke!

Discovered that three manifold studs are siezed in the head, not even big vise grips will budge them, & the heads "unleaded conversion" hasn't been done, so need to find someone in Brissy who knows what they are doing with inserts as it's a pretty rare head, 12G938! The 35.5 inlets & 29.2 exh valves look good in it though! 8)

12G938 stamped in small letters near the thermo housing = it's just a common old Morris 1100S etc 1275 head.
Actually it is called a 12G940 because that number is cast in the middle, on top.

Interesting Doc! All my research keeps coming up with it's got a thicker deck and thicker castings around the ports. Mind you most of the info i found was UK based!
The 12G940 has also been removed from skimming the top surface of the head, only the 12G938 remains.

So do you have any std specs for the head?

Shane

Same specs as Mk2 Oz Cooper S 12G940 head (which is also stamped 12G1805) except for the following:
Missing the 2 extra stud holes (can be added no problem)
Has single springs not doubles
Missing inner spring locators (not needed with C-AEA526 aftermarket springs)
Inlet valves are 33mm not 35.6mm (these can be fitted after seats recut and ports blended in)

Also your head is much the same as the 12G1316 `smog' head (used on 1275LS and late 1275 Moke) except these are thicker casting around the exhaust ports and have air injection ports into the exhaust ports.

Chamber volume on all these 3 heads is 21.4cc.

Today I bled the brakes on my rover (wow what a difference that makes) and then just on a whim swapped the wires over on the voltage stabiliser on my minimatic... and now the fuel gauge works. Win! Kinda hate that after I've changed over all the connectors, bought and fitted a new tank sender... but oh well. Learn something new every day i guess. :D

More fabricating a subframe assembly to mount metro seats in the estate. A day where some it is spent welding is always fun.

I got the engine started! It felt like a milestone moment, until I noticed the fuel leaking out of the "flexible jet tube". I pulled one of the carbs off and the tube that goes into the jet assembly was very worse for wear. it looks like the last time it was done someone hacked at it with a knife to make it fit....

Parts ordered, now to play the waiting for delivery game.

I just use a bit if fuel hose. A couple of dollars at the local parts store will buy a metre of hose which should last 1000 years if you just use it on SU jets.

If it is the O-ring in the bottom of the float bowl that is leaking you can make it from fuel hose, you cut a thin ring of hose and then remove the outer layer and use the inner layer as an O-ring.

Nice idea. When I went to investigate the flexible black tube from the float chamber body was just hanging in by a few mill's and it fell off. Lucky the exhaust wasn't hot......

Spent the past week cleaning and fitting the trim, glass and panels to the doors.
What a pain, especially the stainless trim around the tops of the doors
Only job left is the wiring and then drop the engine in
Sounds easy but the wiring is going to take a while to sort out, including adding in the mega jolt wiring and fitting the audio system
Oh! I forgot the fuel tanks and the body kit need to be fitted

Removed the engine. Found the clutch seal had split in 2 buggered how that happened  and found a small hole in the timing cover seal. Maybe from the radiator hose rubbing over 40 years or the soda blasting fitted new timing chain. An d going to refit it next Saturday
