how much longer are big wheel moke trailing arms than std mini arms?

can i put moke arms on my minivan to make my 13" wheels fit better?

I think they're about an inch longer

And the only reason they used them was the give better clearance on the moke guards

I don't think it would work the same on a mini, as the wheel is already centered in the arch

I've never measured the difference in length, but it's a good 3" or there abouts, remember that the big wheel mokes not only had 13" wheels but also big profile tyres. They have to be this long so the tyre doesn't foul the front of the arm, the section the the pivot pin goes through.

They won't fit a mini without some serious body modifications (either move the subframe forward or the wheel arches back) and I'd say the same for a van, but probably more doable on a van as you have the extra bit of body behind the wheel arches.

The extra length is four inches as far as I can recall.

In this shot you can see the stud for the rear shocker. The length from the pivot point of the arm to the shock bolt centre is the same as a Mini. But on a Mini the shock bolt is part of the stub axle. The extra length on a Moke is behind that point, giving a longer wheelbase.

I agree with GT, you could not use these Moke arms on a Mini body without drastic body or subframe mods.

thanks for the help. so i wont be putting moke arms on the van. but i still need a way to move the hub an inch or so back to accomodate for my larger tyres.

Its pretty easy to extend a standard Mini one to fit a 13" wheel Moke. In Sri Lanka there are a large number of Moke owners who have to try to keep their Mokes on the road with a shortage of supplies and very little money. They end up being quite ingenious.

Standard mini arms should work. If the mags are the normal ones (13x5-13x7) with the normal tyres (generally 50% sidewall) they should all fit inside the arch. The only issue could be the van's too low so a set of hi lows would be the next thing ti look at.

As I'm unbiased (I have both Mini arms and big wheel Moke ones) I will run the tape over em. :wink:

BW Moke 375mm (or maybe 376)

So difference = 3" approx. :wink:

nah that`s not quite right,,, even tho it actually is

but because the side walls of the original 13" wheeled mokes were VERY much taller, like HEAPS taller than the average 13" tyre, the overall dimention is much more than the same distance of 3"

if you can make any sense of that then you`re better than me

crickey & i havn`t even had a drink is about 4 weeks
