had to leave the thing jacked up at work as just as arrived there this morning the manifold pipe decided to snap off just above the junction with the exhaust pipe! - grateful it happened there and not on the freeway

so now she's sitting in the store-room waiting on a new manifold and gaskets to arrive from the Mini King (hopefully tomorrow)

any tips or things to watch out for when changing a manifold? (ie I've never done one before)

cheers

Finally got around to re-assemble my engine after being on the dyno
Next is to start it and do a few checks before I fit it into the car

Rebuilt a Mk2S head for a customer's car with new guides, unleaded inserts and recut seats, then found a major problem.
The head when he bought it off eBay or wherever had been painted nice green and the face and chambers painted silver. I wondered why...
Until I cleaned the paint off with thinners prior to decking for cleanup.
2 cracks in the face- one is major and goes from the brass head plug, right down to the #3 valve seat...
So now I will have to rebuild his other head.

Moral of story- NEVER buy a s/h head which is painted all over. Unless you want to risk being dudded.

Started the engine tonight prior to dropping into the car.
Wanted to check the timing and a few other items while it was easy to adjust sitting on the floor. Sounding good
