Hey guys,
im after photos of your contessa mags as im looking for a colour to repaint mine.

Also what do you guys recommend using to respray them? Im on a tight budget and will do it myself.
Anyone got an opinion on the 2pak in a spray can?
I want something that will last and look nice.

Cheers, Rhys.

I paint stripped mine, machined any gutter rash off, sanded and polished the rims then masked and sprayed with etch primer and `VHT' brand gloss black acrylic enamel in spray cans.
That was a year ago, they still look good.

I use wheel silver enamel in a spray pack from Auto One.
Polish the outer rim and the Mask up and spray the center.

Depends on the colour of the car as to whether the wheels should be silver/black or gold.

My car is Scarlett o'hara with a diamond white roof.

On red cars like yours and mine, "black is beautiful". 8)

Satin black with a red pinstripe is very fashionable, and charcoal grey looks good too.

I just painted mine up in silver. on red minis, black/gold/silver/grey/white all look good, i guess it comes down to whatever you prefer. i did mine in silver because i wanted them to stand out a bit more. They used to be grey.

I put them in the lathe at work, wet sanded them with 600 then 1200 wet and dry. Then I washed and painted them.
After paint was dry I polished them by hand with Mothers mag wheel polish. Didn't take long at all.8)

No clear coat (IMO that stuff is a PITA)- I just repolish every 6 months. The polish leaves a wax or whatever coat on them.

Do you reckon a buffer type thing on a grinder will polish them up?
As i dont have access to a lathe.

Nah get some 600 and 1200 wet and dry and a bucket of water, hand rub them. I only used the lathe as they were already in there (to machine the gutter rash off).
Won't take much longer by hand. And it's safer (can't catch your fingers on the spokes).

Hint:
Take the tyres off and remove (cut off) the valve stems. Makes the sanding job easier.

Mine dont have any gutter rash just a few black marks from where the new tyres got fitted.
I wont be taking the tyres off so ill strip them, then sand the edges, prime and paint and then polish.
