We have come across a Mini with a well fitted roof rack and we would like to find out if this roof Rack is a genuine BMC accessory or it may be an after market thing. Would anyone have any BMC accessory Brochures with pictures of there roof racks.

Yes that photo does help. By the looks of things we have an original 850 Roof Rack in great condition. Would you happen to know when these roof racks were first available.

I imagine that these racks would have been available for the Mini from the very start.

I think they are an aftermarket manufacturer that was here in Australia supplying many makes and models. That is despite the BMC part numbers.

I know we had those sort of roof racks on cars my parents had in the late 1950's and early sixties. Back then they were fitted to our Peugeots (203 and 403 models).

Their downfall is that they upset the airflow over a vehicle and I remembr very clearly the number of galahs they caught (fatally) on country roads.

Mike, the rack would of served as a dual purpose wouldn't it ? I mean , out in the bush it'd be just like picking dinner up on your way home from town ,

Much prefer stuff that comes from supermarkets and butchers. When it comes to eating galahs it would be easier and tastier to simply eat the roof racks.

The trick is to remove the feathers and throw away the bird.

No M1100. The way to cook galahs (and crows for that matter) is to boil them whole in a big pot with a rock. When the rock goes soft, you throw away the bird and eat the rock

The trick is simpler - buy beef or lamb at the butchers.

Leave the galahs on the side of the road for the foxes and goannas.

I nearly hit a goanna the other day, it was a close call. He was huge.

On the way back from Newcastle last weekend (a quick one night getaway for us) I saw numerous dead snakes on the road and three dead goannas.

It was a cold wet week and two days of hot sunshine which dragged them out onto the warm road.

A few years back I saw one crossing the road that could have been an asylum seeking crocodile - it was truely 8-10 feet long.
