now,,, this is where i really need to win the lotto,,, because it`s things like this that i could really use 2 of pretty shortly

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/COSWORTH-909-GROUP-WRC-9-4-44-REAR-DIFF-DIFFERENTIAL-REBUILD-520NM-/250929854186?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a6c95b6ea

but hey... i might just have to use 2 of these instead & then maybe buy a few more of em for spares because obvioiusly with turbo-hyabusa power driving through them i`m expecting to bust a few in a very short period of time :-)

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/506257050/4WD_800cc_ATV_rear_differential.html

but i really don`t like the idea of having to work on my race car , changing diffs all the time would sh!t me right off , so,,,,decent money needs to be spent in the right places so i don`t have to work on the car :-)

then i`m gunna need one of these to whack in the center of the car to get the power to both ends, but again this thing means even more chunks of money out layed

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cusco-Tarmac-Gear-Center-Diff-LSD-Subaru-WRX-6-Speed-/110709539560?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19c6cd82e8

Now i really like these things cause i an still do a handbrake turn with it,,, &&&&& after fanging around in the 6R4 metro for a while i really liked the 65/35 split center diff it had,,, it felt realy nice obviously the thing to have

But i`d settle for one of these if i had to-->
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Quaife-ATB-Helical-LSD-Differential-Mitsubishi-Lancer-EVO-8-MR-9-Center-Diff-/180738770860?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a14dec7ac

So,,, who wants to be my sugar daddy & fund my toy-shop so we can go make 30 or 40 of these damn good little 4x4 turbo hyabusa powered spaceframe buggys :-)

or maybe one of these would do the trick for the center yeah??? & it`s a bargain basement price to i reckon,,, make a coupling up to fit straight onto the hyabusa output sprocket & away we go ;-) cheap as chips i reckon :-)

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MITSUBISHI-Pajero-Mini-2008-Center-Diff-24030-/320800724910?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ab13697ae

ha, i thought i`d sent you that link ages ago John, but i just looked back & can`t find anywhere i`d sent it to you , my bad sorry mate.

anyways,,, that`s the diff i`ve been looking at for my current buggy, it`s a Quaife center with the dog engage rev gear added & in a simple alloy-plate-bearing type cradle

easy & simple & as cheap as you`re going to get i reckon

& best of all,,, it basically fits straight into my buggy :-)

just remember John--> if you`re going to turbo it "&" make it front wheel drive,,, well,,, maybe try not to make it with too much hp, because (depending on how much it ends up with) maybe just be a waste of rubber & track time

however--> rear/mid engined & rear drive yes,,,add plenty of the "go-fast" stuff, almost as much as the tyre you choose can handle (if not a tad more) :-) :-) :-)

but front wheel drive???,,, hhhmmm maybe keep it N/A or at least low-boost "broad-spread" torquey forced & Add some really big wheels/tyres to get as much attraction to the bitumen as possible if you know what i mean

i`m even considering an up-grade in wheel/tyre size with my current car... but i really like the "nimbleness" & the "Toss-abilty" of the 10"s,,,, so i`m probly sacrifcing a fait bit of forward grip , in replacement for the wonderful agility i currently have,,, I`m not too sure whether i`m doin it right or not tho, but i can`t afford to test it with big fat 13" wheels/tryes at the moment, i simply don`t have the money to play just yet

maybe next year as the new 4x4 car progresses i`ll stick some 13"s onto the old buggy & see what happens

Lets face it,,, it`s always the R&D that helps the decision makers make the decisions :-)

The turbo option is unrelated to power. Fitting a turbo simplifies the exhaust problem in that it makes the exhaust very compact.

hey Matt,

Give the GTI-r diff only cost me $150, is LSD and quite compact i'm thinking I could use it as my base for my front diff. All I need is a "can", some bearing carriers and a sprocket in lieu of the crown wheel right?

I mean there a few kits that use a mini diff but its the same principle right?

i have a pic here somewhere of my diff

i`ll dig it out & post it up

made it from a mini diff, made it into a slippery, then made a cover for it from an orange-juice tin & a mini timing chain tensioner to seal up one end & a thin o-ring seals the other end & then i made up a swinging cradle from a couple of bits of old rhs & a bit of angle

Image

it works a treat & is easy to swap sprockets/chains if/when you need (which i havn`t needed to as yet) & also easy to adjusted to chain tension with just 3 packing washers & tighted 3x bolts

Image

Image

& yes if you rip the diff-center out & if you can set-up bearing supports for the sides (i used "self-centering" go-kart axle bearings in mine) then you`ll be away

just remember that it`s best to run 2x bearings either side ,,, or you`d need at least one bearing & a bush in each of the side covers or side cradle plates

edit--> i`ve drilled a drain hole into the orange juice tin diff cover & then used a plastic bung & a zip-tie to hold the bung in, works a treat & is really easy to drain & re-fill & i reckon it`s far better than the grease option that some people use.

Looks almost too easy eh?

I'm currently doodling with inboard brake set ups. Thinking I could hang a rotor either side of the chain sprocket. Though using a mini hub there is no real weight saving as you need the brake assembly to locate the wheel.

Also, i've been trying to find as many internal pics of the gtir diff as possible. It actually looks like there is one half of the bearing carrier that bolts the assembly into the diff casing.

Staring at pictures of diffs all night must had done things to a logical thought process. I'm thinking (as a proof of concept) that I "could" use the existing diff casing as the new cradle.

So here is a picture of the standard gti-r diff.
Image

and i'm thinking off hacking of the bits shown in red. Then it would be a matter of making a "cup" for the diff as previously discussed.

Image

The rear casing of the diff could be used as the mount (as it is from the factory)
