Another day in the shed today. It was day of doing small jobs which I have put off doing or not been in a position to finish. First order of business was to install the cable galleries to the doors, to allow the cables for the speakers, remote locks and electric windows to operate.
I scrounged the wreckers a while back and found these little beauties - they are off a falcon of some sort:
They take a 30mm hole each end. So, damn the torpedoes and full steam ahead - out with the holesaw and into it. First the body hole - opposite the main dash rail for maximum support - the cables willl come down the hole that originally had the wires for the dome light switch:
And then the door - offset vertically by 50mm to allow for the doubling up of the rubber - there is only a 15mm gap at the door jamb:
And this is what they look like installed - being concertina rubber they have a fair range of movement in both directions:
Hopefully when the door is closed they will be sqashed into the gap between door and jamb:
And extended - a wide range of movement:
Next job is to fill and fair a bit of bodywork. There is a hole in the passenger door from a bubble in the filler/undercoat thast happened when I wleded the post on for th door handle. I ground the bubble out and then set about refilling the hole and getting it fair. Then once it was sanded it was time for some spray putty:
Putty applied and left to dry. I will sand this smooth tomorrow:
Next it was time to tackle the roof. I had sanded a large area of the roof to affix the rear spoiler. In fact originally it as a totally different spoiler I was going to go with but n th end the one I ended up using was a 100% better. Problem is that for the other one it required a lot more of the finished area removed to get down to te bare metal. You can just see in this picture what it looked like originally:
So, it was a case of taping off the required area, and putting down a very thin layer of filler:
Then it was a case of sanding all the high spots off with a board with 40grit paper until its relatively smooth, them finer grades of paper until its smooth. Like really smooth with no divots or ridges or high or low spots - then tape off again ready for spray putty:
Then, once the putty has dried its time to sand ultra smooth with 400grit wet and dry until its like glass. Finished now, but need to fair in the spoiler with the body proper. Thats a job for tomorrow. All in all very pleased with the result seeing I am not a body man, but I got it like glass in the end:
More tomorrow.
Cheers,
Tricky
