Honda Discs here....Cooper S discs there.....

Does anyone actually have drum brakes AND LIKE THEM?

yeah i've got drums all round....they're alright for stopping, but i'm sick of adjusting them and having discs would be cool

how often do you adjust them?

hhmmm....well i've gotta be honest and say that i havent done it in a while....but the last time i did it was probably start of the year sometime.......i've had my car for about 2 years and i would have done it every 3 months or so before the last time, and i can feel they're well and truly i need of a nip-up now

i was doing a LOT of driving tho (pizza boy) while i was at school and in the holidays (all round the coast) so the car covered a fair few clicks

and i was driving like a bit of a hoon too

i hate drums to much work and when you drive like i do drum fade is something you do not want

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

I find drums more than adequate when well adjusted. But adusting them every 1000 miles or so to keep then spot on is a pain!

Drums are ok. I was surprised at how well they stopped at the track, but then they start to fade after a couple of laps.

I just got disks, and I like them more already!

When I'm braking hard from near 100MPH at the end of Wakefield Pk straight I like the reassurance of discs and Greenstuffs- you can keep the drums, thanks very much..

On the road, discs have 2 advantages- they stop straight all the time, and they self adjust. I would even take 7" (998) Cooper discs over drums for these reasons.

I know I am going to get a ribbing... but I like the drums. They mean I dont drive over 60km/h, I leave plenty of room in front, I go around corners slowly and above all, I dont try to race other cars...!

Its all the things I can do in my OTHER car..!!

yea, the gap thing between you and the car in front is pretty important with drums....lol...I HATE THAT!!

Kev you are the first I've heard say 7" discs over drums are OK....

When you've never run out of braking power, EVER, with lots to spare, you'll never go back from 8.4" discs.

When I want to stop quick I just throw the brick I have tied to the rear subframe out the window...

there's a hill in Belgrave here in Melbourne that I experienced nasty brake fade on once, coming down to a very busy round-a-bout.. this mini is going to have 8.4's. Drum brakes are fine if you don't ride them too hard and it's only a ten minute job to adjust them (if everything is in good working order which it SHOULD be, they're brakes you know )

boosted twin leading shoe drums, havent given me a HUGE drama yet. I've had to stomp on them a few times, even having the back wheels off the road once.

BUT, yes I would prefer discs.

My biggest drama with the drums, is that when ya do have to stand on them, and the car is slightly off balance, they lock up very easily. And the Yokie A008's dont seem to squeal at all when locked up. Takes ya an extra moment or two before you realise that you've locked a wheel up.
Above and beyond this, most drum equipped vehicles are only running a single circuit brake sytem. I find this to be a bigger safety factor, than the difference between discs and drums. I will always prefer to have a split circuit brake system, even if they are damn near useless.

Discs will always be a better braking system, no matter what. But I can certainly say, my car hauls up right quick as it is. I just wouldnt want to do it all the time.
