you need to take the tank out to get the rear left shock out on a sedan..

jill i'll measure my rod tonight.., there were supplied my minispares UK.. the ones supplied by minicraft in bayswater are just hyrosuspension struts (which are longer than normal hilo struts) and must be cut down.. i'm surprised.. minicraft cut down my mates ones when they supplied them

my mini van can lower all the way and rest on the guards.. and can go about 5 inches above the tyre..

just cut em down using a drop saw..

I had looked at my hydrolastic minis one and of course there are no shocks on that one so I had forgotten about them.

Finally got the rear suspention done. I ended up cutting only about 5mm of my strut bars, Im so annoyed with myself now that i didnt get the lowered shocks, but its too late now.

I was surprised how easy it was to remove the fuel tank, it was the first time i had done it and i was really worried about doing it but it was easy.

Havent done it yet, been too busy with other stuff.
I was planning on 15mm but they are easy as pie to pull in and out so I think I'll start with 10mm and see what it does, measure distance between wheel and arch before and after.. then chop again if necessary. Will let you know after its done.

;) well....

Got to them this afternoon.
My rear extension bars were 246mm long and with the HiLos wound right in the distance between the wheel arch and the tyre was 85mm.

My HiLos had an effective safe range of adjustment of 16mm. You could go higher but that would be the strongest, safest limit to my thinking.

I removed 9mm from the extension bars. Was actually going for 10mm but it actually worked out to 9mm after measuring when Id finished

Anyway, the result was, while the HiLos are still wound in as far as they go the distance now between the wheel arch and the tyre is 48mm :D

IT'S LOWERED!

Jill,
So with the hi - los wound all the way in and with 9mm taken off the strut its at
its lowest point of 48mm off the tyre...?
I think i might take 15mm off the strut and see how that goes, cos i can always
open the hi - los back out........??? Ohh well trial and error i supose the rear
struts arnt that expensive if its frigged afterwards

Yup you just let the Hydro fluid out to go down and put it back in to go up, :P :D

Sorry

I don't think you can put hilos in a Hydro car but I have heard that you can adjust ride hieght a bit with the little spacers / washer things that are in between the ball joint and the hydro bags

Can anyone confirm or deny this :?:

Gordo, I wouldnt take out 15mm as I took out 9mm and it lowered the car 37mm.
Also, same as Mrcooms, Im dissappointed I didnt go lowered shocks. If you want to race or lower your car to anything close to what Ive done I think lowered shocks is a better option.

Id like to know how short a lowered shock is though, Im thinking to decrease the overall height of the shock to the car, I'll do the top mounting bolt up bloody tight. That will squish the rubber mount between the shock and the car by a good 5mm or so. It all counts.
The reason you need the lowered shocks is that when in the lowered position, every time you jack the car up, or Id guess even if you lift a wheel off the ground as will more than likely happen once or twice in a hillclimb... then the suspension is going to fall out.
I'm going to jack mine up to the point where the wheels leave the ground, then wind the HiLos out so that the strut bar and cone are still seated. Hopefully thats not too high.

Lowered shocks would hold the suspension in place.

Although i should have gotton the lowered shocks, i couldnt run my car any lower cos as it is if i take a coner with a bit of spped i just start scraping on the arches which is really annoying!!!!

You can fit/remove washers to the front struts, or fit stronger rear helper springs (pulls back down> raises front).
Basic height adjustment though is just a matter of pumping it a bit or letting some out.
Hi-Los do NOT fit a hydro.
