Look at the draught tube on the top one. No curve or move upwards just to even try and return oil vapour to the sump, just straight down.
When it starts to blow oil it just drops out and straight down.
Oily road.
Go downhill and empty the sump.
New rings every 30000?

It's the std Morris Minor 1000 setup. All 850s were like that too..

That's the same as mine - 948cc High compression unit (not that I've ever seen a Low Compression one)

Short of whipping off the sump and having a poke around, I've no idea what the bump's for. My completely uneducated guess is that it's just a casting bump, possibly related to the earlier 803cc oil filter mounting, but with no internals behind it.

GR, have another reply for you

Have had a few thoughts on this motor. So here is a therory but just that a therory.
During the late 1950's and early 1960's John Cooper used the "A" Series engine in their Cooper Climax Formula Junior Cars ( under 1000cc's).
These engines were dry sumped and had a scavenger pump fitted driven off the camshaft.
I was fortunate to purchase one of these " works" camshafts back in 1960 when I owned and raced a 997cc Cooper Mini. The camshaft had two drive gears one for the distrubutor and one for the pump in line with the oil filter.
Then again I could be totally wrong.

The 803 A series had the bypass oil filter on the other side of the block if I remember correctly.

that extra gear on the cam-shaft was used through the fuel-pump hole as both a pump-drive & a cable driven taco take-off, depending on what you wanted it for

i have a few of those cams here

I'm 99% sure that 803cc Minor engines had a spin-on oil filter up high on the front of the block, below #4 piston, like a late A+. Can't find a picture though

so I don't think that's it

edit:

hang on - maybe I'm only partly right - maybe it's a spin-on, but in the normal spot
