 Post subject: oil pump woes

okay is it possible to install it upside down?????

I didnt fit it but when i pulled the flywheel housing off all the vaso i pumped into it trying to prime it was all around the outside of the pump.

I havent had a close look yet but i was wondering if it may of been installed upside down and been the cause for me not getting Oil Pressure.

ideas ????

sounds like it isn`t tight...

maybe the bolts are too long?

maybe it`s cracked?

maybe it`s the wrong one?


etc?

what size engine? (as in what pump is it? 3-bolt pin/spade drive or 2 bolt spider/ spade drive?)

its for a 1098 and a 3 bolt spade drive i think i will have to compare it to the old one.

If ist cause ist to loose i will be exstatic or even the wrong one

i will have an investigate after dinner :wink:

If it's a 3 bolt `pin drive' pump (std 998/1098), it will only fit one way.
There is a drain slot in the edge, this goes to the bottom.
Maybe the bolts are too long- aftermarket pumps vary in thickness a bit and it's one thing that should be checked these days before assembly.
Also check the threads are not full of Loctite or silastic from a previous engine build.

looks like the bolts holding the bugger in were a bees dick to long :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

but on the up side i wont have to separate the gearbox from the block :) :)

You didn't try to attach the cowling with a self tapping screw, did you? The previous owner of my car did that.

Yeah you need the right sort of (short) screws.

Many people bought Chinese alloy rads, and some of `em do come in without their short 6mm screws. So the owners bought some that were too long... oops, water leaks! :cry:

If you can't get the right screws for the shroud you can at a pinch grind the point off very short self tappers.

Hi there buddy and compliments of the season :)

This thing about the bolts being too long in your new oil pump, I bought up in that huge thread about engine rebuild (in the How To section) and the only reason I knew this was from a previous experience about 5 or so years ago.

However, I'm glad you sorted it and now have pressure :)

re the oilz pump-
Back in the 60s and 70s when these engines were built there were a few OEM pump suppliers, and not all pumps were the same thickness as those we get now.
