Hope you are right drmini.
I have only had the head reconditioned, and had good compression a couple of weeks ago. I saw a small 'score" in the number 3 bore, I think it might be a crack, when I repalced the head.
Maybe the first stepis to remove the head and have a look at it.
I might have to get head pressure tested.
It is also been suggested that I can used a small gas tourch on"score" and see if the mark in the bore bubbles with heat which would indicate that it is cracked.
I agree with you that it is very unlikely that the bore would cracked but I have replaced everything else.
I let you know the outcome.
I am very disappointed because it has taken nearly two years to get the Mini-matic back on the road, but is the real joy of minis driving them or fixing them?
If the block IS cracked I can modify you a 1098 manual block by plugging an oilway and the dipstick hole, and fitting an auto's relief valve seat. It's easier than doing a 1275 block because the oil pump recess depth on all smallbores is the same.
Alternative- get GR or someone to sleeve your block.
