A friend of mine bought an Indigo Blue with White roof Cooper S in 1968 it had the Blue interior, I was so impressed with the car I ordered the exact same car and when it arrived at the dealer I got a call to say your S has arrived but it has the Fawn/Beige interior instead of the Blue interior, I checked it out and it looked fine so I took delivery even though it was not what I ordered.

What colour was the carpet?

The carpet in mine was a matching Fawn/Beige/Bone colour, the carpet in my mates was Blue.

Mine ('68 built MK I) has the black seats, door cards and carpet like IndigoBlueCooperS's MK II. (my carpet isn't original though)

The '68 MK 1 Indigo Blue S I bought new which had the Bone/Fawn interior was later bought by a well known Mini racer/engineer in the early 70's, I remember seeing the car in his work shop and he had stripped the Bone/Fawn interior out and was in the process of refitting a complete Black interior like you described above. Lots of odd things happened over the years.

It would be interesting to know what the colour options were. I will talk to winnabey further about this before I do the resto on mine. Maybe it shouldn't be black at all although I do like it and will probably stick with it!

I have a 69 minimatic well it was a matic in indigo blue , when I bought the car I was told it was a one owner car , it had the bone / ivory / white seats in it ... And I think it had black carpet ... I sold the interior ( wish I didn't ) and now it has the light blue trim ... Still looks like its meant to be there ...

Flute I would say if you think your black upholstery is original then it would have had a Black Westminster carpet to match. There is a Red 68 car in our local club with original black upholstery and it's original black westminster.

My Car is Special Burgundy with an original red interior and original red westminster but, like the Indigo cars, I have seen Burgundy Cars with both blackBlack and bone/bone interiors.

The Interior MkI colours I have seen are Red, Blue, Green, Bone and Black.

From what Drewie has said it seems you could make a special request on the interior colour if you were prepared to wait.

Interestingly I have also been told that some of the very last of the Mk1's had the Mk2 style loop pile carpet and I know a car where this was the case.

Should be nice when finished , that front apron panel is the wrong one though , its a heritage made one for a later model ,has wrong number plate brackets and a few other things, but should be ok with a few mods ...Not very many Mk1 Cooper S had black interiors as standard , but they were quite common on the Mk2 .... good luck with the resto... cheers

PM me your email and i'll send you a list of Mk1 Cooper S with body and interior colours

Looks great. I hope you post progress pics. Did the previous owner give up / run out of money / or loose interest? That must happen a lot.
