Installed the ramstacks to my DHLA(Thanks Dr Mini!!). Found out the filter o bought from Minisport will not fit in the engine bay so off to Repco to get a reamflo pancake one instead.

Next is the driveshafts, reinstal the new bridging seals in the calipers(new ones in it were perished after sitting for 2 years without use!!)and get this pig registered here in Toowoomba. Does anyone know of a dyno place that can rolling road tune it for me in Toowoomba??

Hooroo

Bin the Lynx foam pad and fit a Unifilter LNX400 pad instead.
The Lynx ones are like `sucking on a peter stuyvesant' ROFL. :P
And they crumble with age.

Took a sharp right hander and watched as the oil pressure disappeared. That reminded me it's time for an oil change

So: Changed the oil :D

(This is the first change using Valvoline XLD Classic vs. the old KMX, so we'll see how it goes. Looks the same, smells the same...)

After troubleshooting a sudden onset persistent bad misfire in the 1360, it looks like the head gasket is cracked between #3 and #4 cylinders.
I have already changed the entire ignition system 1 bit at a time, checked the fuel delivery, changed the fuel filter and also changed the fuel from V power to BP Ultimate with no joy.
#3 and #4 plugs (only) get black in 50 metres.. then it misfires.
I'll borrow a compression tester today to make sure, but it looks like it's off with its head.

Yes the gasket is a BK450, but was supposedly made in UK, not Belgium.
I can see a good s/h one going back on if this is the problem.

[edit]
Head gasket was fine. But I replaced it with a new one anyway
After doing all this with no result and speaking with GR, I discovered the cause of the problem:
Apparently when I gave it a big rev the other day, it had sucked the old `Finer Filter' foam pad against the RH stubstack of the Dellorto, = instant richness on #3 and #4 whenever it got on cam.
I have had this old filter on the 1412 for the last 6 months, as the Unifilter foam came out for cleaning. It's back on now.
Obviously the 1360 + RE282 cam sucks harder than the 1412 + RE13 cam did.

Just collected another 1100s power unit. This one is different again and also missing a few bits. I'm going to need to swap or sell/buy parts soon to make them complete.

I also need to re-arrange my shelving. I have too much crap on the floor.

Are the belgian BK450 gaskets bad? We have used them 3 times now and they have all blown pretty easily. Is it just our bad luck or are they not that good anyway?

There was a big thing on Turbo Minis a while back with quite a few people having trouble with these gaskets blowing .. they were only meant to be from one bad batch which should have been all recalled ... where are your gaskets blowing ..

The UK BK450 I took off had the exact same markings as the new Belgian one I put back on.
The old one was fine.
IMO some of these gasket problems can be attributed to head and block faces that are not flat. Or burrs on the block around the studs.
In my case, the block was decked flat and the stud holes csk when I built the motor 10,000 miles ago, and the head decked flat a month ago when I refitted it.

I just went and picked up a new gasket not 10 minutes ago,the part number on the pack has changed from BK450 to AF470 and even the gasket its self has the same number imprinted in it ...

But as you said Kev most of the problems are caused by one of the surfaces not being flat , friend just had his head done and after only four race meetings the head was .004'' out in the middle ..

Some information about the BK450 head gasket.

BK450 is made in the UK.

Kontich in Belgium is the main warehouse for the world for Federal Mogul products. All Belgium does is packaging and dispatch.

Federal Mogul owns Payen.

As an authorized distributor for Federal Mogul products in Australia we order all our UK parts from Belgium.

BK450 does not supersede to AF470.

Hope this helps.

:D

Went to my local purveyor of mufflers and bought a 2" hotdog.
Mission- quieten the 1360's bark, so Mr Plod is less likely to bite.
