nothing definitive, but driving 'normally', it was much the same as my warmish 1275 (maybe 9l/100?) I remember my first drive any distance with the blower on was to Melbourne going via Healesville, then to the Melbourne Mini 50 show at the showgrounds, then north up the freeway and filled up at Wallan. It had used 35l in what must've been 380-400 k's on all sorts of roads

That said, it's easy to use a LOT of fuel... boost is definitely good fun

Obviously if you're going to put a blower on an engine, good fuel economy should be looked on as a nice surprise, not as an expected outcome

Amen to your last line there Simon. I expect to use more fuel as I like driving in a "spirited" fashion; however, I would like to be suprised with the mileage(seeing as it is a 1018cc small block).

If I am to use a HIF44, what would be the best needle to get hold of? Or do I just downsize to a 1.5 SU?

Thoughts?

stick with the HIF44 - Ben's manifold is designed for it.

As for needles, can't help much, everyone seems to use something different. I had good results with a worn out one that I was given

Pull the motor out and use GR's dyno would be the answer, or does Greig M have a chassis dyno?

Rod Hansen has a Dyno at his shop so will run it in and get it tuned all in one hit. He will also be installing all the other crap I have yet to do(wiring loom/shafts/SC kit...lol) and will be slow time as he has to keep his business ticking over as well.

Thanks for your advice - will keep you all posted.

So long as he knows his SU's, it'll be fine :)

Rob, do you mean the one over at CF..? Or has Rodney put one in himself? I've been stalling on getting mine on the dyno for about 9 months now... Odds are yours will be on before mine, let me know how it goes.

Rodney did my discs, and a few other minor things for me. Good bloke. :)

I think he has one in shop now - I have to pick up the XR8 this morning(QLD safety check) so I will have a sticky beak. He is getting his white Cooper S ready for scruitineering this afternoon for the road race in Gatton(never heard of it until he told me!!). I don't know if I will get it done before you as I am trying to find time to get it out there plus I have to get the interior sorted (waiting on a parcel from Minisport with all the bits) and the wiring. I might try and do a dummy fit of the wiring this week-end...see how that goes.

I agree he is a nice bloke and he sources all of his parts through a wholesaler somewhere - wayyyy cheaper than minisport so I will be ordering stuff through him if I can.

Simon - I would love to let GR get his hands on the car but I Am a wee bit displaced(I miss the convenience of Shydanee being in your back yard!!). Looking forward to seeing Rod's car in action this week-end. Saturday morning it is happening so going to pop down the range to have a look-see.

since injecting mine and doing a dyno session to sort out a few issues, my fuel economy is very good - driving from Hay to home (flat country with a few small towns to go through), then a cold start and drive to the servo is (according to google maps) 337km. It used 26.2l, which works out to 7.77l/100km, which is 36.3 UK mpg

that's probably better than a stock cooper s, but I have 90hp at the wheels :D
