So not sure how the whole bonnieville thing works exactly... but from
www.saltflats.com there is a link to the 150 club. Doesn't specify rules or regs but does list those who have made the mark.
I'm trying to dig up a little more info, cause i'd love to know what the go is too.

anyone else know anything regarding land speed records on the salt flats??

where's Burt Munroe when you need him :)
(one of my all time fav movies. the sound of that bike.....)

Check out the "britishpathe" site and do a search on BMC, amazing footage from the 50s and 60s. Look at the Austin Healey record and MG record attempts. Especially look at the safety equipment

this is a link to the South australian salt lake racing site, scroll to the bottom for the engine capicity classes
http://www.dlra.org.au/carclass.htm

and this is a link the the record holders and what the records are
http://www.dlra.org.au/recordcar.htm

for the class that a 998cc engine would fit in the current record for production car (stock apart from choice of cam, carby and ignition) is 96 mph

for 1100cc or 1275cc the record is 125mph

not sure which class they are trying to run in but it wouldnt be production as they have stripped out the interior
