I got to the first fit of my new dash yesterday, one of the last steps before getting the mini back on the road. It's going to need a bit of fiddling.

In other news, I have some auxilliary gauges. I have a combined oil/water gauge a la this one http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx? ... 922&title=.

Has anyone fitted one of these? I need to know where I'm supposed to plumb the oil pressure bit into, and how to hook up the water temp bit, preferably so I can keep the current temp gauge in my instrument cluster as well. I'll see if I can get a photo of the back of the gauge when I get home, if it's not too late.

Thanks friends.

For water temp you can get thermostat housings that have a spot for the temperature prob. I got mine from repco

Water temp into the thermostat housing as mentioned, the oil pressure goes right in the front of the block, about 2-3 inches directly below the top connection of the oil feed pipe.

Be careful when you screw in the water temp guage sender.

Be sure not to twist the flat bit the wires are soldered to.
Hold that steady and screw the other bit around it.

Or else you'll quickly destroy the temp sender.
Like someone working on my car did to mine

Slightly off topic, but is it legal to fit mechanical gauges inside the cab? I have heard, anecdotally, on several occasions that they have to be mounted outside the cabin due to the possibility of hot fluids leaking.

I recently replaced my mechanical oil gauge with an electric version because it was slowly leaking oil all over my dash, but i wasn't to concerned with keeping the car original.

They left the factory with mechanical guages, so i'm certain it's legal

Thanks guys. I'll be home a bit late tonight, but if I can get away from work a bit earlier tomorrow, I'll have a look and see if I can make sense of it all.

So there's no way I can just tap into the current temp gauge setup, I have to run a new line?

Also, will the spot for the oil pressure probe be all set up and tapped ready to go, or am I going to need to muck around with that?

Thanks team.

Mine has a "T" Piece where the Oil Pres Warning Light sender screws into the block, the capilary line was attached to one outlet and the sender to the other.
