Yup, I was truthful on the whole process, last thing I want is the cops to pull me over and give me a defect notice, old transport just didn't seem to be too fussed over it.

In SA you don't need a mod plate from going 998>1098.
Or 998>1275 for that matter either.
Just an inspection.

Tell them the new engine is 998 and give them the 1098 engine number.Probably go straight through as long as its not stolen.

There is no need to lie, tell them the size, tell them the number and they give you the plates, it IS that simple :x

You should be fine,

Majority of the time they don't bother getting out from behind the counter, particularly if you have all your paperwork filled out correctly and your necessary forms etc they like to have their jobs made easy for them. I've found if you appear neat, switched on and friendly they will be more than happy to process your registration as it really is straightforward.

And if your doing an engine change, like the other guys have mentioned it's essentially the same specification. All you should need to do is fill out a change of vehicle details style form and get it processed. If they ask why tell them its a reconditioned unit so your car is reliable, don't mention it's a firebreathing stroker that sounds like an angry swarm of killer bees!!

The way I interpreted the law was if the 998 or 1098 were available at the same time of production and no mods were required to swap between the two engines it is allowed ie someone could have ordered a Leyland mini with either engine= a ok.
On the other hand with my 1963 Morris 850 I have fitted an A+ 1275 and disc brakes. These were not available to be fitted to my car at the time of production, even though they bolt straight it without any mods it is still MODIFYING the car from how the factory at the time of production had intended.
I do have a mod plate for this mod as I believe the law requires (and the engineer also interpreted the law this way).
Basically read through the current QLD ADR's (can be found on the QLD transport website) and read the laws for yourself.
