I was reading an old copy of Just Cars and came across an ad for an Leyland Mini LS body code XNFAB18Y and engine prefix 99H889AJH. All the prefixes are correct in accordance with known data however I have not seen a 998 LS post April 78, the point at which the XN body prefix would have changed from 022X2S4M09 for this vehicle. The 1275 LS was released in July 78 with body code XNFAD18Y.
Does any one else have a 998 LS with a XN body code? I would interested to hear from you and would be most interested in the build date of the vehicle.
There is always something new in the world of Mini's

I have photos of two compliance plates for the 998 LS after the code was changed.
They have the prefix XNFAB18Y.
One was dated April and one was dated May.

Watto found the code a while back...
XN = Mini
P = Mini, H = Mini S, F = Mini LS
A = 2-door saloon, F = 2-door van, P = Buckboard
B = 998, D = 1275
1 = 4-speed manual, RHD
8 = Year of introduction = 78 (the existing models all got an 8 under the new code)
Y = Australian
