as an aside..

I've been contemplating building a little lightweight trailer for carting kayaks around when roof-rack vehicles aren't available..

something a little like this

http://www.discount-trailers.com/images ... iler-3.jpg

my question is, what does a mini rear subframe ride like as a trailer? considering this would have hardly any weight on it - even compared to a mini..

I thought an easy fabrication would be to bolt up a mini subframe to a simple trailer chassis but i'm wondering how bouncy it may be with not much weight on it. would a hydro frame allow for more adjustability than a dry one? ie let out a fair portion of fluid....

thoughts?

I reckon a dry subby would be the go, hilos for adjustability, and definitley keep the shockers otherwise it will be very bouncy empty.

Hydro would probably be bouncy because without a front bag (in the normal situation) theres nowhere for the fluid to move to so it will result in stiff suspension.

The pic you showed was obviously very light and just un shocked leaf springs so un loaded that would be bouncy, but then most empty trailers jump around.

Hydro bags still do give a bit if not interconnected, as they are a rubber cone really, with a hydro bag inside them.

The Suzi GTI powered Minis that were build on the south coast of NSW had 4x separate hydro bags, with no connections between them. And their suspension still worked.

I looked at using a hydro rear subframe for my trailer build, but the Mini subframe is actually quite heavy. I went with a live axle and leaf springs instead as it's much lighter. I later added poly air bags so I could adjust the ride height for varying loads.

the VMCi BBQ trailer has mini rear frame with the bags linked side to side rides really well.
both our rear end trailers (still waiting to load pics) have rubber frames, work real good
